Hey everyone!

I got married last weekend and have an awesome new white gold ring. However, I usually carry my knife in my left pocket, and most of my knives have either metal handles or rough G10. My ring is already scratched and scuffed from reaching in my pocket and scraping it on my knife.

I'm looking for a new knife with a non metal and non abrasive handle. Locking mechanism doesn't matter as long as it has one. Blade length at least 3 inches, but no more than 3.75. Price no more than 150 USD.

I'm open to pretty much anything, but it must be able to handle daily life tasks as well as moderate to heavy use while on duty.

Thanks!

EDIT:
I use the clip and would prefer to continue using the clip. I have trained with and gotten used to the knife clipped to the inside of my left pocket and I'd prefer not to change this. Also, I like wearing my ring, so not wearing it isn't an option. Thanks!

EDIT AGAIN:
My wife took me to our local range today, which just happens to be a Benchmade dealer (my favorite brand). With her suggestion, I ended up walking out with a Benchmade CLA auto with smooth black g10 handle and black plain edge blade. Couldn't be happier with my new knife and new wife!

Jeez, a tuna sandwich will scratch gold. By carrying in pocket, I assume you mean you don't usually use a clip? Other than that question one of the first things that popped in my head was a CF Boker Kwaiken, round/smooth all over pretty much, CF is non-abrasive. >$150 if not closer to $110 at times.

Boker Kwaiken might be what you are looking for. Not the best hard use knife, but it will do light to medium stuff all day long

Would a pocket slip solve your problem? Remove the clip if you need to, or you're not using it. Large CRK pouch is how I carry my Star-Tac, which is near your max length.

Well wearing my ring got it scratched to oblivion, and I wear a surgical steel brushed finish band so it'd hold up better. I don't really care that it's scratched up because I ca fix that myself, but I get blisters and calloused from it real bad,(I'm a lefty) so I have since switched to wearing on my right hand. I should have done it years ago! Is your ring a simple band? If so you might try clearcoating it. I use clear nail polish on my watch to keep it from getting deep scratches. Works really well, when it gets marked up I take it off and redo. The glass still looks great 15 years later.

It's a band with both brushed and polished parts. I knew it would get scratched, and I don't mind most scratches because it adds character. However, my knives have left big wide scrapes, and that's what I don't want. Scratches are impossible to avoid, but big scrapes and gouges are, for the most part, avoidable, especially if I get a new knife. And heck, who doesn't want an excuse to buy a new knife??

I certainly won't discourage you from buying a new knife! but you might still try the nail polish trick. It won't hurt the ring and if it doesn't look good, just take it off with nail polish remover. I haven't looked through all the responses but I suggest looking at a frn Spyderco.

I'm not trying to dismiss your concern for your new white gold ring, but scratches happen and will continue to happen. You get used to it. I wear a white gold band too. The one thing I have to pay attention to is when using surgical gloves which I commonly do a lot on the job. The ring can get pulled off and left inside the glove fairly easily unless it is really tight and I don't like tight.

I would simply avoid metal scales on knives (and get what you like) although there is still enough metal exposed to scratch a ring periodically. Keep you knife in your right pocket or the right back pocket.

I can understand you wanting to keep it nice looking but in the real world it is not going to happen. All the other stuff your hands will come in contact with are going to leave little scratches. Just wear it and don't worry about it. Have 50 years on mine and it is still going.

Jeez, I would much rather be worried about the knife getting scratched than the ring. The ring is going to get scratched no matter what.

If you workout at a gym with weights a wedding ring will get blasted pretty quick from grabiing barbells, dumbells and doing chin-ups. So I gather you don't workout much?

When your wife cheats on you or divorces you will throw the ring into the ocean anyway. If you die your wife will remarry. Nothing is permanent!

Firstly, CONGRATS on getting married!
And second, I'd say something with carbon fibre handles would probably do the trick. I'll leave it up to others (and you) to suggest options/choose.

Benchmade 560 Freek. My favorite knife. Has a handle made of Grivory and a rubberized material. Completely non-abrasive and completely ambidextrous.

Congratz on the marriage.
