Hey all,

Recently I have decided to get myself a new fixed blade knife and I need some suggestions. Here are the requirements:
Blade length 4-5 inch
Price less than $200
Will be used for camping/ hiking knife
Full tang
Good sheath
High quality
Preferably a good edge holding steel
Thanks for the suggestions

The Becker BK16 is a great option, although it is much lower than your listed budget. Its 4.375in of 1095 Cro van (5/32in thick) and full tang. I love mine. The factory sheath is pretty good as well.

I feel that it is a great compromise between "sturdy/robust", and "super thin but amazing cutter". Its about the largest knife I'd want to take when out backpacking any considerable distance (weighs about 6.5oz without the sheath, which is about twice what my mora+ sheath combo weighs).

With the extra money you saved buying it, you could have a custom sheath made to your exact specifications, and still come in under budget. There are lots of good options in that size and price range, but thats what I'd be getting if I were you.

Good luck finding something that works for you :).

Oh no! This is bladeforums, where every ask for a recommendation HAS to include someone proposing something ludicrously over budget.

I'll make up for that by recommending a Busse.

Esee would be a good company to look at as well and would be within the budget.

Ha! Its the truth though, thats usually how this goes.

I'll second ESEE, particularly now that they're redoing the handles on the 3 and 4 (the main negative comments about them were their handles). The ESEE 4 and the BK16 are similar in design, but the ESEE 4 is thicker (3/16 vs 5/32), and comes with Micarta scales from the factory (the Becker they're a separate purchase). Can't really go wrong with either.

Also, its been a while since I checked pricing/wait times on the Survive! knives, but I seem to remember the 4.0 and the 4.1 running close to $200, and could be had in CPM 3V which would be "superior" to both of the above. Might be worth checking into.
