Well, I am new to Emerson blades and never bought one after hearing about horrible fit and finish issues. I picked up a new (2013) CQC8 from a buddy and fell in love. I see no issues besides a bit of break in needed to fully smooth it out. So I have the CQC8 which I love and already have a CQC10 in route now as well as a Combat Karambit. The CQC10 is barely used and kind of fell in my lap from another friend. Not in love with the style though.

I am thinking about trading/selling the CQC10 for a CQC7V as I haven't owned a tanto style blade in many years. The other two options is a Commander or Road House as these are the three style blades I would like to try next from Emerson. Any help from the collective would be appreciated. Any of these will get used on duty and as an EDC for the foreseeable future. I will also be saving my pennies for the next run of Tigers as its just bad a$$.

Thanks for any advise you can give, need help making up my mind here.

Do NOT sell/trade the 10, it is a fantastic knife and of the 35+ Emersons I've owned it is easily my most used knife. You need to check it out in hand first.

There will soon (next week) per EmersonREP be a run of the Combat Systems Fighter knives coming up on the EKI site. Very similar blade to the Tiger. Might want to wait and check that out too.

Try out the Commander. It is easily one of the best design by Mr Emerson. The ergo is unbeatable and the blade is just badass.

I have a friend who has the mini commander, may call him and check it out. Anyone know the projected price on the Combat Systems Fighter?

Officer Match, I plan on trying it out first and seeing how I like it. From a visual stand point it's not my style. Who knows, once I get it in my hands I may not be able to let it go.

I would guess at 300-320 for the CSF knife. I agree with OM, give the 10 some real pocket time before making a decision.

Also, if your interested in the Commander see if you can get your hands on the regular, that thing just MELTS into the hand.

Welcome to the addiction.:D

Agree about the Commander's ergos, just amazing in every size (evil plot Mr. E, I see your plan ;) ). I find the 10's ergo's just about as good and the blade shape much more versatile; nothing it doesn't do very well, especially in BTS.

I am going to say you can not go wrong with a "7", I am going to order another Emerson, was considering a Commander, but I like the feel of the "7" I own so much (Mr. Small Hands) , I am leaning very heavely towards another SEVEN.

Opposite for me. I've tried every size and configuration of the 7 and cannot make myself like them even though I like there looks very much.

My two favorites are the 15 and Commander. Have a 7V and is very nice as well. The 10 wasn't for me, and I really tried. Everyone is different so take our opinions with a grain of salt.

My personal favorite(s) are my Karambits. Aside from them, the Horseman is my most carried and used of the lot, and for good reason.

You guys are killing me, hahaha, I was hoping that there would be a strong opinion on one side or the other. I guess like everything else its what fits that particular person and I will have to try them out first hand. I wish there was a local dealer that carried these.

My favorite is the 15 serrated, hands down. Perfect EDC. For me, anyway.

Second is my Super Commander serrated, which is a tad on the large size. But AWESOME!

Is there no big-name hunting outfitter close by? In Buda (south of Austin) there's Cabela's, and I got a chance to see a lot of different Emerson models while they had them (word is they stopped carrying them).

My personal suggestion, if it's for daily use, you can't go wrong with the CQC-7A, Horseman, or Commander for something unique.

Really? Was this announced somewhere?

Sounds like you got bit by the Emerson bug! I'm saving for a Tiger too -- stonewashed.
As for what's next? Well, I'd say a 7 and a Commander.
I really like my Journeyman as a utility blade for work and it is outstanding in that capacity.
But I really like my 7AW. And my Super Commander. If you decide on a Commander (iconic, in my opinion) just remember that if you have big hands you may prefer the Super over the regular ... that's my experience.
But get a 7. Seriously, you cannot go wrong with a 7.

Indiana Joe, I ordered a CQC 7V last night. I was going to trade the CQC10 for one but everyone seems to like it so I figured I would give it a shot. If I don't, maybe I will get the Commander next.

Well, the CQC 10 came in today, and it is very comfortable, I will be keeping this one. It has a certain squeak to it when opening and closing, but its from 2010 and probably just needs to be greased. Might have to youtube that to make sure I don't screw anything up. I still kinda prefer the CQC 8 but the 10 seems like it would make a better EDC type blade. I did end up ordering a CQC7V and that should be here in a couple days, then I can try all 4 Emersons side by side.

I really appreciate all the help from you guys. I was able to play with a Commander, my buddy still has the one he carried while in the Army, its a full size Commander made in 2000. I love the less aggressive G10 on it. Will sanding the G10 on these knives void the warranty? Just enough so they can be removed from my pocket with a little more ease?

I will be posting a family photo when the 7V arrives, and some thoughts on each. The only one I think I will be ordering in the future is a Tiger, that is just plain sexy. Again, thanks, and my wife hates you all now. LOL

I found that a nice cleaning takes that right out. Take some q-tips and make sure to get inside the pivot hole of the blade and washers.
