So are you recommending the Highland over the Canadian Special?
Thanks
Carl
Carl,
I don;t have any experience with the Canadian Special. I've seen it and it doesn;t appeal to me, personally. The shape of the blade is too thin and pointy for my tastes....I like a little more belly. However, it might be perfect for you and what you intend to use it for.
The Highland is an inch shorter but with the same blade length. That means the handle on the Highland is shorter, between 3-3/4" and 4", judging by the specs. The handle on the Canadian Sp will be close to 5" long.
If you take a look at the mini-Skinner, that's the blade shape I'm looking for in most (though not all) knives. It's effective for skinning or any other camp or hunting task, though it would make a relatively poor stabber.
Take a good look at the specifications for each knife. You may not like a knife as small as the mini-Skinner or as short as the Highland....it's a personal taste thing, I think. Now, the mini-Canadian? There's a super nice knife in a very small package, bu tthe Canadian Special just aint my cup of tea.
Foilist,
That mini-Canadian is working out just fine. I made a leather sheath for it (I'm on a kick now and making sheaths for anything that doesn;t move) and my little girl loves it. We're going up in the mountains tomorrow morning for a short hike and some survival practice. I've been out of town since April 10 and just got back Friday, so we haven;t had a chance to use it to start a fire. We barbecued some steaks tonight and she used the mini-Canadian to help me cut up onions, jalapenos, avocados, and some garlic cloves. It's still scary sharp!
