Knife related “new year's resolutions”

It's just money...

If I can extract a single moment of genuine elation....it was worth it.

That's my resolution in all things, knives included.

I think i will document the money that i spend on knives. This is a very soft approach to curbing purchases. I dont want to set the bar too high

Continue to practice and refine my slowly evolving free hand sharpening skills, to the point that I am confident enough to sharpen knives that I am scared of making dull and unusable. Currently, still learning and getting some success with my "practice" blades.

I am going to lay off the INFI this year and spend most of my money on more traditional s,

Just kidding but more trads are on the way

I like it ! We have similar storage techniques lol :-) and Infi madness :-)

For me I guess one is to get a really good guided sharpener. Thinking of the large Russian made one forget its name. Two I’d like to use more of my fixed blades and look into another edc folder. Three I’d like to spend more time crafting leather sheaths and learning more.

No New Knives!
I keep repeating that mantra but my inner knut is deaf as a stump.
It's the 1st day of the year and I've got 3 on the way already...and was just eyeballing another tasty specimen.

I want to buy fewer, emphasizing a little more high end with what I do buy. Probably something nice from a shop in Vegas when I go with my lady in April, and something nice at Blade West.

I also want to expand my horizons a bit in the $50-$250 range. Guys from reddit have been helping a bit by offering to send me things to try for YouTube, which has been unexpected and very appreciated. I got to try a Bestech Pterodactyl, for example, and I’d have never bought one.

Also, trying to be a voice of reason with the knife videos.

I spent a pantload of $$$ in 2018 on 50+ knives so I will be definately cutting back this year.

I will make a few purchases in 2019, but only on a select few knives that I have been wanting for years.... a PM2, an ESEE Junglas, a CRK Small Sebenza and a couple more Manly knives (at least one fixed).

I did order 4 Mora knives today to leave at the cottage, but all 4 were under $35.

1) Get around to sending a couple I have out for repair/reblade.

2) Cut the number of knives I carry at one time to just two or three. (not counting the SAK Signature on my keyring.)

3) Slow the buying of new and new to me knives.

To cut myself less and therefore spend less on Band-aids. Just ran my thumb into my band saw as I was cutting out a scale.

Buy a one or two (maybe 3) Spydercos and nothing else.
But, maybe instead of one knife I buy Spyderco medium ceramic stone. So 2 or 3 knives and one sharpening stone. That is not that bad, right? Right? Right? :(

I try to buy only few knives, and prefer to get one for more specific situation where I could use one rather than buying just for the sake of getting one.

Detox...purge my collection of all Kai products, for two reasons:

1) they no longer represent the excellent value / quality that they once did (in multiple examples)

2) I will not support the company any more due to their extremely unprofessional way that it’s representatives conduct themselves, including to myself directly.

As I said early in the thread, I want to slow it down; the buying and I guess the cost. I get emails from TA Davison and the #1725 is calling to me. I have to resist as I have one similar to it already. But you can see the curse in action.
