Peter, see how I used g10 as a spacer for this paring knife? Easy to do and would work for your groan
Think I know what you mean, wouldn't be a problem for this antler though, I want to do it in sections was the original problem, might be fun to try the spacer though ;)

Was supposed to be Grohman, not groan!

And seeing that, not sure spacer would work. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with

I understood, ;) don't think it would work for that but I could just use regular scales, interesting end-around for sure, thanks ;)

yes, john, the is a Muk Cold steel, found it in a junk drawn in a charity shop down in Georgia when I went, think I posted about it, taken me this long to look at it again, ha!

Had some scale material warp on me, never tried this before but felt wrong to just give up on it altogether. I soaked it for a long time and now have it pressed

Chances of success? ;P

this did not go as planned

On the plus side, the joining method worked well enough it took me a vice, a clamp, a big hammer and plenty fo time to get ti to come apart, on the bad side the joining method was good enough it split the think liners rather than let go at the join..mixed emotions

these scales straightened up nice, but they picked up some texture along the way, they'll need a little more work before I can put them to use ;)

thanks, both

Stabilized burl woods do tend to come out looking great, might not have gone to the effort of saving tip if it had been Osage, but that might also be because I still have quite a bit fo Osage left :D

don't look now, but i'm finally putting a handle on the camp knife!

with that said, i'm less than pleased with myself. i got impatient when i was sanding the blade side of the scales, ya know, to put a little curve in it. so, i hit it with the band saw again. didn't measure. didn't mark it. needless to say, i took too much off.

so, i don't think i'm going to like how it turns out. but, i'm going to give it a shot anyway.

ok, so i don't hate it! actually reeeally like it. the handle is a tad short, but not bad. real comfy, and the balance point is right on my trigger finger.

i've had this blade covered in masking tape for far too long. i'd forgotten how much i like it. i like the shape, but this is my favorite grind i've had on a jk. it's real thin at the edge, which i like. you can see it in one of the side shots.

john, why didn't you tell me this camp knife is one bad larry!??! tell me again what you called this model. real nice work. sorry i've taken so long to finish it up.

look at that grind!

size comparison shot. that is the twig mangler below it, and a bk16 below that.

it's actually funny how things work out. i couldn't get my 1/4" bit to fit cleanly thru the blade blank. so i had to size down. this meant i needed to take some material off my 1/4" pins.

i was going to use nickel silver for kind of a classic, clean camp knife look. but didn't want to sand those down. nat canvas pins on nat canvas scales? didn't love the idea, but ultimately convenience won out.

and i'll tell ya, i like the look of it.

thanks guys

My cousin's brother in law left this re-badged Imacase burriquito in our duck blind. Said it wouldn't chop anything. One quick glance proved that an edge had never been put on it from factory, so I took it home and decided to make it my own. Spent a little time over the weekend profiling the main edge with a file and started adding an edge to the back in the recurve section. Going to remove the poorly fitted poly handle, clean the whole blade up, and then re-handle.
