Knife-Resistant Children's Clothing

Last night two 16 year old girls stalked and attempted to murder a 21 yr old man at a village festival here in Japan.
They planned to kill someone, but not anyone in particular.
they attacked him with knives.
Somhow he survived.

I'm talking off the top of my head here, so don't take this as gospel...

But I believe the stats for "saves" of cops wearing second chance body armor that came from vehicle accidents isn't too far behind those for "saves" for stopping bullets.

If you want, you can probably verify this on the manufacturer's websight. And not just for motorcycle cops either. Just thought you'd be interested that wearing ballistic armor works to improve safety in other ways. Just an amusing oddity.

edit: PS - Ayoob claims that the martial arts teaching until it's become instinctive of how to fall has saved his bacon in far more numerous accidents than in combative situations.

Oh yes, want to remember the way iodine stung back before mercurochrome came along? Being a kid in the 50's had it's distinct disadvantages

Rusty: Reminds me that jockeys (i.e. horse racing) wear kevlar vests. In case they get stepped on after a spill.

Really? I'd never heard that! Makes sense though.

It occurs to me that skiers could also benefit from wearing helmets and body armor to protect from spearing themselves on trees. Maybe they already do it and I'm just behind the times

I think I was about 30 when I saw a museum exhibit of a leather boot with steel toe piece that was socketed for a ball, mated with steel cable around the boot's heel. Circa the late 50's. I was totally outraged they'd make a museum exhibit of what I'd learned to ski on twenty years before ( would have been 9 years old in '59 ).

I also remember watching Olympic Gold Medalist ( I think ) Stein Ericksen skiing Heavenly Valley when it was still Stateline, Bijou, Al Tahoe, and the "Y" instead of South Lake Tahoe. And I actually watched a couple days of the Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley live, for real, and in person. ( Sorry Yvsa. )

yes, martial arts trainign will help you survive an accident.
It teaches you how to survive, not necessarily how to kill.
I rolled out of a moving car once.( it ran out of gas and i thought it was slow enough to start pushing - i was wrong)

Have you ever been to a rodeo?
(Texas is full of them)
Rodeo Vests are pretty much the same as flak jackets.
Probably stop a bullet, I dont know.

Thanks, DIJ. that rodeo vest sounds like something to be worn under a kevlar vest. The better kevlars have trauma plates to protect against blunt trauma. I remember hearing of a cop that was shot with a 45-70 that died though the vest stopped the bullet. Though the bullet didn't penetrate it apparently crushed several inches deep. ( Using terms approximately. )

If there are any presently into skiing, is there anything like the rodeo or kevlar armor out there for skiing? I'm way, way behind the times.

It appears that the days of studded leather biker jackets and chain-mail are past. Any skiers out there?

I ski recreationally. I've never worn more for protection than a good jacket. I'm sure the high speed downhillers wear something more substantial though.
