So many knife reviews done on YouTube are so unrealistic on what you would use a blade for. Batoning with saks, stabbing car doors etc. Is there a better website with videos that show the true function of a knife. I love videos that show useful tips. Im not planning on beating the crap out of any of my hard earned knives.

The stabbing doors or breaking into a car with a knife tho can be a good thing for police to know a knife can do. They'll probably never use it for that but hey better to have the ability and not need it than not know and need it

I recommend the ones that are purely informative and do not center on specific knives.

Most "knife" "survival" "prepping" etc channels are actually shilling channels that just sell you the product at hand.

I recommend Virtouvice, Cliff Stamp, Gavko for knife-related knowledge.

For knife skills I like to watch Ray Mears.

Yes. Place called BladeForums. Plenty of photos AND videos.

The ability to stab a door?

So true. Head on over to the knife reviews and testing subforum. Lots of great reviews there. Many better than all of YouTube could offer. Mistwalker might be the best there is. His threads are amazing. Get your wallet out.

On YouTube I enjoy Gideonstactical a lot. No destruction tests, just practical information. If you are a sheath nut like me you will appreciate his review of the knife and sheath together. Of course like any review you might disagree with his (or anyone's) philosophy and the review could be utterly useless. For example he like i need a good kydex sheath. If you only like leather you wont find his point of view helpful. To each their own. I'm of the opinion that Too many great knives come with terrible sheaths. That is why I find his reviews helpful. Others may not.

I think there are two reasons so many reviewers resort to ridiculously impractical displays of strength instead of giving more practical feedback/advice:

1. It's more visually engaging for the casual knife user. Think of someone who doesn't really know what separates a great knife from a crappy knife. It's very easy for them to see someone bashing it through the hood of a car and to think, "oh that's so badass, check that out!!" and share it with their friends. Hence more viewers, more money for the reviewer.

2. The fine nuances of what makes one knife "better" that another are really hard to appreciate without touching/using the knife yourself. I think there are three things that make a knife great: ergonomics, fit & finish, and cutting performance due to grind geometry matching steel type. None of these things are particularly easy or fun to explain via video. So nobody does unfortunately.

There must be something excellent about him to garner 600,000 subscribers, but I certainly don't see it.
Nutnfancy is good because he is consistent with his point of view. He does not waiver. It does not matter if you agree with him or not, it will give you a good comparison and information. You know what you are going to get.

My favorite is virtuovoice. Most videos are long, but I find him entertaining. He mostly deals with fixed blade hunting knives. My favorite video is where, before he talks about knives or hunting, he shows how awesome Japanese toilets are.

The Apostle P covers all of those aspects on every knife he reviews. His videos can run long, but if your interested in ergonomics, fit and finish, the minutia of blade grind, cuttting geometry, and how they are affected by steel type, he gives you that in spades.

I alway think "Prepared Minds 101" is pretty good. He's on YouTube.
Don't think I've cared to watch anything knife related from him, but he seems like a shill on most anything else. Dissing Fenix because they won't give him models to review sticks out in my mind, and I'm no Fenix fan. Not to mention one of the most awkward people to watch.

Nutnfancy is excellent.

Any random nutjob on youtube would be better than this idiot!

I'm subscribed to The Late Boy Scout channel, he has a few good knife videos, along with other stuff.

I don't understand this type of comment... Disrespectful with elements of anger and hate... I like nutnfancy and think he is excellent. IMO He is articulate, tells a good story, is knowledgeable, has life and gear philosophy, sometime I don't agree with him, often I do... His reviews are honest. He isn't out there "shilling" anything... He eschews groupthink. For me he has motivated me to be a better dad and person. Some people in this work are creators of good thing. Others, destroyers. Nutnfancy IMO = creator of good. Not perfect... Good...

And yes, ESPECIALLY the bolded part. Gideonstactical is one of the pages I follow as well.

I liked the old Nutn vids when the time limit was 10 mins. Now the videos seem more like lectures. Just my opinion of course.

Wealljuggleknives, lateboyscout, and sootch come to mind too. Do a search for a specific knife and watch several reviews. If the same positives come up, that's good. If the same negatives come up, that's probably bad.

That guy's videos used to be good until they got creepy because Chris added Jessica to his vids and thus there's always a point in them where the camera zooms in on her crotch for extended periods of time, and their obvious attraction (with him being married) is just distracting.

Examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1BxP0Hx0Fk around the 4:15 mark, where the person running the camera is clearly not focusing on watching someone strip bark off a limb with a knife (so advanced! Such skills!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGigZsky8XY the action gets going around 1:45 where again, the camera is focused on Jessica's crotch more than the knife.

What amuses me is the amount of crap he's taken in his comments for it. LOL
