Knife review videos

Sootch has two channels, Sooch00 and SensiblePrepper. Both are pretty good, although fair warning, he does a lot more gun, bag, and gear reviews than he does knives. I enjoy his videos, however.

He undoubtedly shills and I dont care to watch him, but I do think he's got a pretty respectable standpoint and realistic attitude and is in general not cringe-worthy.

I like the fact that he doesnt hide it when he shills, because sometimes it gets ridiculous with some channels.

I also appreciate his choice of knives, you dont see those knives featured in many other channels.

Oh hey, you aren't wrong. I mean, GoingGear pretty much has him on the payroll at this point. But the fact is, they ALL shill. If you see a Youtube gear/gun/knife guy with tens of thousands of subs and fifty or more videos, then they are being backed by somebody (or somebodies) whether monetarily or by being given free stuff for review purposes (and if they keep it after, well hey, thank you for saying nice things about us!). What's interesting about Sooch in particular is that you can see the point in his vids where he started to get backing. His early videos were very much "I'm doing this in my spare time" sorts of affairs, and now he's pretty open about where he's at: "Such and such sent me this bag, so let's talk about why these features are IMPORD-ant". LOL

That guy's videos used to be good until they got creepy because Chris added Jessica to his vids and thus there's always a point in them where the camera zooms in on her crotch for extended periods of time, and their obvious attraction (with him being married) is just distracting.

Examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1BxP0Hx0Fk around the 4:15 mark, where the person running the camera is clearly not focusing on watching someone strip bark off a limb with a knife (so advanced! Such skills!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGigZsky8XY the action gets going around 1:45 where again, the camera is focused on Jessica's crotch more than the knife.

What amuses me is the amount of crap he's taken in his comments for it. LOL

That's actually pretty funny now that you point it out. But in all fairness, that's WILL on the camera in those examples, not me. And yeah, I get a lot of crap for it...at home. The name doesn't help (she's not the original Jessica, after all). Jessi is good for business though. She keeps it interesting.

Don't think I've cared to watch anything knife related from him, but he seems like a shill on most anything else. Dissing Fenix because they won't give him models to review sticks out in my mind, and I'm no Fenix fan. Not to mention one of the most awkward people to watch.

When did that happen? Fenix sent me a stuffed monkey, so I must be special.

The "shill" argument gets old. We get stuff for free sometimes. That's the business. Always been that way. I have yet to see someone point out a video I did that was inaccurate in it's representation. Just because someone likes a brand you may not, doesn't make them a shill. Like everyone's favorite, Thrunite. They might go overboard in their marketing on Youtube, but the lights are every bit as good as the other brands.

What I would like to see is less talk and more proof. Grab a camera and prove a Youtuber wrong. It's not hard to edit and upload.

There are a few good ones out there. Late Boy Scout, Nutnfancy, Apostle P, Crocket 20, Gideons Tactical, Cutlery Lover, Kevin Cleary (underrated IMO), etc. Pick a few knives and search them on You Tube...you'll see the same group of guys pop up after a while with good reason, they're good at what they do and people like them. They also do good videos on all kinds of other stuff...
