Knife Rights' Oklahoma Knife Law Reform bill, SB 1159, was introduced by Senator Nathan Dahm. SB 1159 will finish the job Knife Rights started last year by removing dagger, bowie knife, dirk knife and sword cane from the items prohibited from carry in Oklahoma. Last year Knife Rights repealed the ban on carrying switchblade (automatic) knives and passed Knife Law Preemption in Oklahoma.

SB 1159 is the third bill introduced by Knife Rights so far this year, after bills in New York and Kentucky. Knife Rights also passed its Knife Law Reform bill in Wisconsin last week.

Sorry, but I must clarify something here:

Your post inclusion of the phrase, "SB 1159 will finish the job Knife Rights started last year by removing dagger, bowie knife, dirk knife and sword cane from the items prohibited from carry in Oklahoma..." as written, grammatically and technically, states that prohibition of daggers, Bowies, dirks and sword canes ceased with legislation enacted and passed last year, and that they are now legal there.

It did not and they aren't. DAGGERS, BOWIES, DIRKS AND SWORD CANES REMAIN ILLEGAL TO CARRY IN OKLAHOMA AS OF THIS DATE.

Further, your LINK takes one to a statement which reads,

"Combined with Knife Rights' Switchblade Carry Ban Repeal bill, HB 1911, that the Governor signed last week, preemption ensures that switchblade carriers will not have to deal with local restrictions on switchblades and that possession of all knives will be legal throughout the state. Daggers, Bowie knives. dirks and sword canes are still prohibited from general carry in Oklahoma..."

This statement technically and grammatically gives two diametrically opposed statements one after the other.

I believe this may cause confusion among the readers of your post.

In both cases the composition is a bit muddy and may lead to some head scratching. If these statements were written by some gasbag politician it would be understandable and perhaps excusable. However, as they were likely written by a KnifeRights representative I felt I should post this if it saves even one Oklahoman from being jailed.

Both sentences could have been written to convey more clearly the current state of the law there in Oklahoma: as of this date autos are legal in OK; the four knife styles mentioned remain illegal (for now) in OK. However, your recently introduced legislation, if passed, will make the four legal IN THE FUTURE.

And thank you very much, once again, for the work KnifeRights has done, and is doing, on behalf of all of us. I find myself in Oklahoma often and know a few people who appreciate what your organization has done there.

Thanks Critter for your continued work on securing our rights. When will this bill be voted on, I can't seem to find anything else about it. Funny thing is my co workers and I was discussing this today. I was happy to let one of them know it has been legal to carry switchblades since November.

We stand behind you every step of the way critter. Thank you for your service.

Yes thank you. I live in OK, and since November, without any apprehension, I've been carrying an auto OTF occasionally.

Perfectly legal there now, right? You can thank KnifeRights.

Hope that isn't a dagger though.
