Knife Ripped Off From Luggage

I am surprised that people that want to ship such items, there is not an airport service to accomodate them.

Unfortunatly overseas shipments by FEDEX, UPS are recieved and checked by customs. This may add a large value to be paid in the form of an importation tax.

As stated before in this thread, I am sure if the bag had traveled on the same plane and been escorted through all the flights and check nothing would be missing.

On the otherside: you pay your money and take your chances.

CSP: There were 3 autos side by side, NIBs.

Chuck, previous to Sept 11 you could take anything valuable, including knives, in your carry-on luggage. It was also possible to lock up anything valuable you chose to put in checked baggage much more securely than with the locks that come on Samsonite suitcases. Strong cases with good locks were available and some people used them.

Gollinick, thankyou for info. I never had to fill out a claim for international claim. Another little known fact, airline security has never had to have a search warrant to search a bag for any reason. During my airline days the story floated around about an agent walking into a bag room and seeing a couple of FBI agents standing around. He asked them what was up. They told him they were waiting for a warrant to search a bag. The airline agent just went over and opened the bag and informed feds no problem. I would think if the bag did not present a danger to craft or persons, someone have some legal problems right then and there. On another note, we used to see a lot of illegal drugs in baggage. Not large amounts, more like personal, casual use. We were strickly informed we are not dope cops, and to ignore. Actually, this made sense, too. We had enough to do, without adding a lot of clutter to our duties. It wouldn't do any good for business, either.
