I'm thinking about painting the scales on my minimalist. I'd like some tips:
-what type of paint do I use?
-do I use primer?

Any more tips would be appreciated, thanks guys.

You can use almost any type of paint, if you use a good primer, but you should be prepared for a few "redos" to find a good durable combination of primer and top coat. I'd start with a spray plastic primer and then a spray paint top coat. Actually what I'd really do is live with the color of the handles, knife handles are "handled" too much for paint to not wear through quickly. Add in sweat, contamination from foods and other materials being cut, lubes & cleaners,... paint is not going to last very long. Something like Ceracoat or a similar baked coating might last longer, but the curing heat requirements might be too much for the handle material

To me knife + painting should not even be in the same sentence.

For me painting the scales of a knife is just a wast of time.
They will get ruined in very short time if you use the knife.

The handles on this Griptillian were black. I Duracoated them Magpul FDE several years ago and it shows absolutely no wear. I also have a few pistols that I Duracoated, it is really durable and you can do it at home for around $30. The black on the end of the handle is from sharpening stones gone awry.
