I know, totally stupid. I have my moments of being trusting and altruistic...
Someone suggested hitting a guy up on Instagram for a knife I was looking for and I figured what the heck. He asked for PP F&F, which, to strangers is obviously a red flag anyway, I know. (not a dig at people who ask for F&F payment here on BF either, I'm totally with them here) So I sent payment it was converted to EU and I though, welp. Another red flag. Buying a knife made on the US west cost from EU to be sent back here? TF? Then he says oh, I'm going to refund that (he did refund it) and you'll need to sent payment to this other address... So I did that. Then I got this email:

I confirmed the address was correct. Don't know what the registration nonsense was about but it seemed like part of his non-english native way of wording things.
Annnnddd then this email:

The first thing that came to mind was, as my dad would've said "I was born at night, but not *last night*."
I politely asked to cancel the order and for a refund.

So he started messaging back on instagram where it started and after just trying to figure out what this obligatory insurance license that's "required" in the "state" was coming from, or required by who or why or anything... It came down to "this is the way forward.". No, F me once, shame on my, F me twice though? Nope. Anyway, I'm fairly upset but it's hard to be angry when I was the one knowingly being an idiot.
But wanted to take the opportunity to share here & increase awareness. Especially after a comment I saw from someone else. I was really into one of the expensive knives he was selling and I wasn't going to risk it, but in case things had panned out I wanted to check the price. So I asked in a comment and the guy who made the custom knife, replied warning me the account was a scammer. So, he's probably been taking a few suckers already and his account is still up.

and yes the "Ex Servicemam" was kind of a red flag too. Also, the knife I was most curious about but not going to buy from this nobody... with an account created in July 2023... (Speaking of red flags?) Has deleted the reply to my comment warning of the scam from certainly much more real (and talented) folks: https://www.instagram.com/tuchknives/
So, that's all I could think of to include, sorry if this is formatted poorly or ranty or too full of stupid screenshots. Just trying to be helpful, the way I figure it, us knife geeks have to look out for each other a little. ;-)
(in b4 scammer sees this and replies, ha!)
