Anyone know of a good place in the Green Bay, Appleton, FDL area to get knives sharpened? I usually send them out but have a few autos I’m running into problems with shipping.

I have looked, but haven't found anyone. Tried one guy (Appleton) but I wouldn't trust him with most of my stuff. He mostly does kitchen knives, lawnmower blades etc. I suppose it lead me to learn how to sharpen myself. Now I have a KME and a bunch of other fixings and just do it when needed. It's fun learning anyway.

There is a knife shop in Green Bay next to Red Robin that sells mostly kitchen knives but will sharpen anything for $1 an inch on their powered wheels. It's a nice setup. A friend took his tanto point ultratech there to be sharpened and they did a nice job. It was quick and cost him $4.

Thanks, that’s what I was leaning towards anyway but figured I would ask around.

That's definitely the way to go. It's a huge advantage to be able to keep your knives sharp yourself. You always have a sharp knife in your pocket and you don't have to worry about carrying around dull knives or being afraid to use them.

I have a co-worker at work that has me sharpen his Kershaw knives occasionally. He works the night shift and I work the day shift so we don't see each other very often. He carries around dull knives until he has a chance to hand them off to me for sharpening. I keep trying to convince him to learn to sharpen but he just isn't interested. I don't know how he does it. That would drive me nuts and I would learn the skill whether I wanted to or not.

I am way west, west of Madison, and I am not a professional sharpener, but I could do the job. Honestly though, if you enjoy knives then it is worth it to invest and learn to do it yourself if you have the time. It gives you a greater appreciation for edge.

I have an M390 UTX-85 that I keep sharp on a simple DMT kit, also have water and oil stones and stropping materials, as well as an HF 1x30 with specialized belts, a variety of tools for maintaining the different kinds/sizes of blades. Think about what sharpening equipment you might need to maintain your blades and give it a go! But if you need it done in a pinch, drop me a PM or email and I can help you out.
