Knife sharpening?

Do you guys know of anybody who sharpens knives for a reasonable price? I've got a Grohmann's #3 that came to me unsharpened. I'm pretty bad at sharpening, thus starting from scratch is really out of the question. I figured you guys might know of someone. Thanks.

Don't quote me on the price. That is what I paid the last time I had a non-Bark River knife reprofiled and sharpened. That included return postage. They redid the entire blade and made a REAL cutter out of a over thick wedge.
I think sharpening on Bark River knives are free for the cost of postage both ways.

You could always sharpen it yourself or take it to the local Ace Hardware. I am sure a kid in the back would stick it on the grinder for you.

Just kidding.......

LOL

I've been thinking of sending off an F1 to be thinned a bit, oughta make a hell of a slicer that way. I like what BRKT does.

lee, if it doesn't work out with richard i can do it for you. i just charge return shipping cost. pm me if you are interested.

he can enter the contest i'm having and get it done for free if he wins (winner pays shipping and insurance both ways though) look in cougars thread in tgbu mantis mania.

I would take up the offer of the knifemakers above. Grohmans sometimes come a bit on the blunt side and trying to reprofile one can be a long road. If you aren't willing to invest in a couple of hours at a stone then you might find $20-30 really worth your time.

Kudos to RichardJ and Siguy for offering to help this user out!

riddle,
Was the knife you had reprofiled a GW?

Yes, Mike had one of his guys re profile the entire blade to a crazy sharp convex profile. It went from being a wedge to a real slicer.

i offer sharpening also. send me an email. here is a link to a video of a knife i made slicing newspaper. all of my knives are this sharp. http://www.myculpeper.com/richardj/MLNA0018.AVI

Richard, That's impressive! I get my blades pretty sharp, but that's a whole new level. What's your method? I use a Sharpmaker and a diamond stone, so please don't say free hand -- that's just not in my skill set.

Lee, do it yourself..it is the best way to learn..by practicing. Gene

Lee,what Gene said,do it yourself but use a sharpmaker if you are no good. Also the reason I asked where you are is because any major center should have somebody that sharpens for like 3or5 bucks. Any sporting good or knife stores nearby?

i agree with gene and flnder, few things feel better than taking your knife off the stone and shaving with it...

but i disagree with flnder that you should seek out a sharpening at a sporting goods store, and be wary of knife stores. i know that at my local hardware store they butcher knives on grinding wheels, and i have heard some horror stories about knives sharpened at knife stores etc.
