Hello fellow knife aficionados,

Last night I placed an order to Sportsmnasguide, including one of those little Swedish Mora knives. This morning I had an email, stating that shipping was restricted to Colorado for that knife. I called them and the story I got was their lawyers had decided any knife over 3.5 inches in blade length could not be shipped to Colorado to protect the Sportsmansguide from lawsuits, as Colorado lists the 3.5" blade length as their legal definition of a potentially deadly weapon. I have ordered and received ammo from the Guide in the past, yet they are today refusing to ship me a $9 knife with a 3 7/8" blade. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of thing? Here is the email I received:

" Dear Guide Customer,

Thank you for your recent order 30523154 with us at The Guide. Unfortunately, the following items are restricted to your billing zip code, therefore we can not ship these items to you:

- NEW SWEDE MORA KNIFE

We have not billed your charge card for any restricted items. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

If you would like to verify availability on a particular item, call our Order Desk (1-800-882-2962) or our Customer Service Department (1-800-888-5222) to help you.

Please reference your order number: 30523154.

Thank you for shopping The Guide. "

Yes, and I stopped buying knives from them for that reason.

They once "accidentally" filled part of my order and shipped a knife > 3.5", they didn't ship the other, then started calling trying to get me to ship it back.

They are the only company I've had this experience with.

Buy it elsewhere. That is sheer lunacy.

I live in the UK, and am happily allowed to order things like a Swamp Rat BattleGuard (about 9" long).

Wouldn't they sell you a butcher's knife.

Welcome to BFC, cdmiller. If there's one thing that stands out about the Sportman's Guide, it's definitely the morass of shipping codes that affects nearly every item they sell. At any rate, in the Exchange section we have a sub forum called The Good, The Bad, The Ugly! I'll move this thread there so your post can serve as a warning to other members.

When I was a kid, Colorado was a western state. Successive waves of immigration, from the midwest then Texas and the current Californication have defiled the western culture - Littleton put the stone on the grave.

I left there in 1973 as it was being inundated with Texans.
