Knife shops in Europe?

I have the enviable job of working with a band that is doing a tour through Europe at the moment. Instead of collecting spoons, fridge magnets or shot glasses, I would like to collect knives from some of the countries I am visiting.

If anybody has any info on where to buy or what kind of knives I should look for I would love to hear from you. I’m mainly looking for production pockets knives or hunting/bushcraft type fixed blades. I already have Opinel and Mora on the list but I need the name of shops that might have them. I also need more info on knives made in Europe.

Here is the list of cities I’m visiting; Zagreb, Croatia - Salzburg, Austria - Sligo, Ireland - Malmo, Sweden - Oslo Norway - Stockholm, Sweden - Helsinki, Finland - Gothenburg, Sweden - Odense, Denmark - Berlin, Germany - Ghent, Belgium - Mallorca, Spain - Florence, Italy - Weisbaden, Germany - Vienna, Austria - Basel Switzerland - Galicia, Spain - Caen, France - Grenoble, France - Strasbourg, France - Marseille, France - Tours, France - Lille, France - Hanover, Germany - Dortmund, Germany - Stuttgart, Germany - Katowice, Poland - Moscow, Russia - Ljubljana, Slovenia - Bratislava, Slovakia.

If anybody lives in any of these cities I would also like to meet for lunch or coffee.

I"m not really an expert on knives made in Europe but I can tell you that there is a decent knife store in the Au Park mall in Bratislava Slovakia. The mall is easy to find. There is a bridge over the Danube that looks like it has a flying saucer on top of it. Cross that bridge to the west bank. The mall is on your left. I don't know if they have any special regional knives because when I was there yesterday I mostly spent my time drooling over their awesome selection of American knives. They had a bunch of nice Spydies, Emmersons and Benchmades. All for prices much more than I'd pay back in the US. High end knives are pretty expensive over here but Opinels and Victorinox are of course very collectable.

You should have no problem finding a place to pick up a Victorinox and a Wenger while in Switzerland. I'm sure both Basel and Strasbourg have there own knife shops but about 1/2 way between the two is the city of Freiburg Germany. It's a nice little city and also has a pretty nice knife shop (again with rather high prices). I'm sorry I can't give you an address on that one. I think it was kind of between the Munster (the big cathedral downtown) and the train station. Not too far from city hall. The streets downtown are a labrynth though so probably not a good idea to just take a train down from Basel thinking you're going to jog over and pick up a blade.

I don't really live in Bratislava and I'll be leaving Europe in a couple of weeks or I'd meet up with you and take you out for halushky and a Kofala.

Have fun on the tour!

I'm fixed up pretty well on knives how are you fixed for back stage passes at LC's Waldbühne show in Berlin? wink wink nudge nudge

I wish I could help you with a ticket or pass, but I only get a few to use for my family. The number 1 reason we don't give out backstage passes is because Leonard only wants close friends and family backstage. If you ever get a chance to talk with Bono from U2, ask him if he was able to get backstage the 3 times he came to see Leonard! It makes for a very pleasant atmosphere before the show if you know everybody who is backstage and they are all family.
I would still like to get together while I'm in Berlin to find a place to shop for knives. I'm looking for a Linder Boat Knife while I'm in Germany. Feel free to email me so we can chat more about this.

I would but he never calls anymore. Bono: Call me! I know a guy on the internet who can get you those backstage passes to hang out with Leonard Cohen. :D

The best sorted knife store I'm familiar with in Berlin is Wiedenhof in Europa Center near the Bahnhof Zoo.

Now that intel has to be worth AT LEAST 2 passes to the show, if not backstage then at least down front, cause otherwise in the Waldbühne, if you're at the back it's like watching an ant perform way down there at the bottom of a hill.
