Hi all,

I am going to my first knife show and I am very excited - up to this point, I have never been able to handle a knife prior to ordering it on-line. I was wondering, are there are good deals to be had at knife shows or is it really just to view? Meaning, can you generally get better deals there vs. the same knife online? Also, are some of the more mainstream knife companies represented (Spyderco, Benchmade, Etc.) generally or is it mostly small custom knife makers? I would imagine that it very much depends on the show so I guess I am asking in regards to most knife shows. This is a two day show hosted my the Northeast Cutlery Collectors Association. Sorry if these are silly question and thank you in advance!

you need to walk the whole show before you buy anything. when I was selling at a show I was selling a ACK leverlock switchblade for $XXX another dealer was selling the same thing for $75.00 more than I was. he looked at me and I just thank some one he was not selling any guns. the other dealer marked his prices so high I started takeing his customers. you are probley going to have some of those same type of people at your show. I wish you luck and enjoy yourself.

You will get the most out of it if you understand pricing so you won't fall for any impulse buying.

If you bring cash, it often helps you when bargaining to lay that money out in front of the Seller.

Better deals can be had towards the end as people want to go home with lighter suitcases and fuller wallets.

This is very good advice, Especially about impulse buying....If you see somthing you like (say it costs $50) if you look around you might find it for $40 somewhere else, just make sure there isn't a better deal somewhere else and dont be afraid to haggle! have fun!

Thank you very much for the advice, my friends. We'll see - hopefully I can find some deals but either way I look forward to seeing some cool knives!

Every show in the country is a little different in its focus and who attends. Custom makers complain that the Oregon show is too much like a flea market of old factory made knives while I've heard many attendees at the New York/New Jersey show complain all there was over priced customs and no major factory knife company setting up. Once you go you will know what your show is like. But if you want it all in one room, go to the Blade show in Atlanta.
