This thread is actually making me kinda queasy right now, especially after GarageBoy's steel dust and bus pole comment. Made me think of the smell of grocery store shopping carts. I've always hated the smell those things leave on my hands when the plastic part of the handle is missing. :barf:
You know, folks, low carbon steels do indeed have a smell. Even 440A. It's somewhat difficult to detect, but it is there. Try first tasting it, then smell it.
For the record, I've tasted knives as a result of sometimes carrying them with my mouth (as pirates or assasins sometimes do when climbing a rope, for instance). It was after doing so, I then developed a consciousness of the smell of a knife. And doesn't knife steel smell so very nice!
