Knife Smelling

But that smell
that burnt metal filing smell
I love the smell of sharpening in the morning
.....it smells like...victory

This thread is actually making me kinda queasy right now, especially after GarageBoy's steel dust and bus pole comment. :) Made me think of the smell of grocery store shopping carts. I've always hated the smell those things leave on my hands when the plastic part of the handle is missing. :barf:

Now, rubber's another story...

Oh yes...I sniff my blades and revel in their wonderful and varying aroma's. No foolin' :)

I like the smell of forged blades. stainless are odourless, but all my forged blades have this peculiar smell of .... iron?

1. You're nuts.

2. I didn't used to smell knives, but I do NOW. Thanks for that.

3. I like the Strider smell.

Actually I like the SOUND of knives - the sound of an auto opening. :D

I like the smell of Rem oil on a newly lubricated blade.

Not me. I'm crazy-allergic to that stuff. A few drops on my fingers and I start to wheeze.

I don't smeel baldes too often. But, I do like the smells of an blade wiped down with Sentry Solutions and the smell of a new Victorinox.

You know, folks, low carbon steels do indeed have a smell. Even 440A. It's somewhat difficult to detect, but it is there. Try first tasting it, then smell it.

For the record, I've tasted knives as a result of sometimes carrying them with my mouth (as pirates or assasins sometimes do when climbing a rope, for instance). It was after doing so, I then developed a consciousness of the smell of a knife. And doesn't knife steel smell so very nice!

After I've polished and wiped my khuk down with WD-40 it smells good. Also, the buttcap smells like..well..butt:D . Must be from that goat blood...
