Knife spotting in war coverage

I heard that during Desert Storm the most used knife was the Leatherman multitool, beleive it or not.I imagine it may be so this time around, too.

I know of at least one SF sniper that is carrying a CRK Green Beret knife. We gave it to him before he left. I only hope that he never has to use it in hand-to-hand combat because that would mean his aim is WAY off!!!

made2cut,
I was watching that same clip on CNN. It was the 101st, waiting to move out of Kuwait. The large fixed blade was a Busse Basic 7. He gave it to a another soldier to open an MRE.

I just saw a guy on CNN up in Northern Iraq carry either a spyderco snap-it or a remote release.

Other than M-7 and M-9 bayonets only a Chris Reeve one piece and a Ka Bar Next Generation being used by medics.

This evening on Sky News I saw a Gerber multitool pouch on the right hip of a British officer giving a briefing.

On the cover of the Post Dispatch Sat addition about 2 weeks ago, there was a pic of 2 soldiers binding an Iraqi soldier. One of the soldiers who was cutting the end off of a pull tie was using an Emerson Commander. It was hard to tell if it was a prod or custom (a bit blurry) but I'm almost 100% positive it was a Commander.

I find this very easy to believe. If I were over there and had to choose between a good, solid multi-tool or a choice fixed blade combat knife, I'd take the multi every time.

Thanks for passing that along. I was wondering about that. Now all Leatherman has to do is make a black version of the WAVE! Now that would be cool. Is your supertool still stainless?

Leatherman is releasing a black version of the Wave this year to celebrate their anniversary. I don't have a release date though....

I have been on the look out too! Other than seeing the usual Ka-Bar's, M7's and M9's...I saw this one 3rd Infantry guy with a Delica cliped on the outside of his gear with the clip to his chest making the Delica unmistakeably visible. I also have some footage with this 101st guy playing with a fighting knife... I haven't checked to see what it is yet though.
