I'm ordering a custom stamp from harpers or everstamp and was wondering if I can stamp my knives right out of the forge or will this destroy the stamp. Also this stamp is a solid silhouette of a swallow in flight (special meaning to me) and was thinking of ordering a size around 3/16". Is this too small, most of my blades are around an inch wide and don't want something too over powering. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Most makers use Henry Evers' stamps which I believe are made from O1 and are around 61-62 Rc. They can be used on both hot steel and CRA for some time. (I think that I got around 1000 blades out of my old stamp before replacing it and only then because of my own foolish mistake)

As to the size, a lot of that is subjective. I believe 3/16" would be sufficient.
The detail of their stamps is very good. Draw your artwork to that size and see if you are satisfied. Mine is a little larger but that was personal preference.
