Eric asked if he could send me one of these for testing/evaluation before he made the decision to start making them available to the public.
I get that .. big step to put your creativity out there on the market for what might be a crushing blow to the ego if it fails.
That's not the case here .. these are done right. I like the design and his quality of craftsmanship matches.
Here's my thoughts.
Can it be shipped in a small flat rate box? This keeps shipping costs down, which in turn keeps the price point lower.
This stand is for a Runt but I'm thinking even a larger model would fit in the Small Flat Rate box too.
I asked Eric to send me one that needed assembly.
I wanted to see if it could be put together with or without a instruction - even if they were simple or needed to be more complex.
I put this one together with no instructions. The concept is simple, but very thought out.
The stanchions snap into place with the cross bar design which incorporates the Fiddleback logo (nice touch).
I could option to glue these pieces together, but Eric sent 2 different wood cross bars - so leaving it un-glued allows changeability or breaking it down for transport for say someone like a Knife Maker who wants to use these at a knife show table as part of his display
Eric said this magnet is a 8lb pull .. and he will be using a stronger 15lb'er for future builds, but I found this one very suitable for the Runt.
Not too strong - and yet still strong enough to hold the knife firmly in place.
Very hopeful Eric will get that Maker/Craftsman membership and start offering these to masses. Think he'll be pleasantly surprised with their popularity.
From here I just went crazy with picture taking some of my favorites .. enjoy.
