Knife Stand Project

Those are really sweet. Not for me though with small curious helpers about. How about some for wall mounts?

My first couple designs were wall mounts. It works fine, but I did not like the actual wall mounts showing on top, I'd like to come up with a nice way to hide the mounts behind backplate. Plus the backplate needs more design thought.

Those are beautiful. I'm all on board with selling them someday. Count me in for a few =P

Nice!!!! I like those. I'd like to see a couple of sizes though. I'd be interested in getting a set of them for photo's.

Nicely done! Really like the use of the magnets. I'm going to have to try something similar one day, all of my fiddlebacks are in a cardboard box :(

Eric asked if he could send me one of these for testing/evaluation before he made the decision to start making them available to the public.
I get that .. big step to put your creativity out there on the market for what might be a crushing blow to the ego if it fails.
That's not the case here .. these are done right. I like the design and his quality of craftsmanship matches.

Here's my thoughts.

Can it be shipped in a small flat rate box? This keeps shipping costs down, which in turn keeps the price point lower.
This stand is for a Runt but I'm thinking even a larger model would fit in the Small Flat Rate box too.

I asked Eric to send me one that needed assembly.
I wanted to see if it could be put together with or without a instruction - even if they were simple or needed to be more complex.
I put this one together with no instructions. The concept is simple, but very thought out.

The stanchions snap into place with the cross bar design which incorporates the Fiddleback logo (nice touch).
I could option to glue these pieces together, but Eric sent 2 different wood cross bars - so leaving it un-glued allows changeability or breaking it down for transport for say someone like a Knife Maker who wants to use these at a knife show table as part of his display

Eric said this magnet is a 8lb pull .. and he will be using a stronger 15lb'er for future builds, but I found this one very suitable for the Runt.
Not too strong - and yet still strong enough to hold the knife firmly in place.

Very hopeful Eric will get that Maker/Craftsman membership and start offering these to masses. Think he'll be pleasantly surprised with their popularity.

From here I just went crazy with picture taking some of my favorites .. enjoy.

Bud, nice review. Good pics also. I like the way you demonstrated the magnet.

Eric, good job on the stand or rest. I really like how changing out the middle section allows you to accommodate a larger knife. Nicely done.

Thanks Bud - glad it arrived safely and appreciate the kind words. Your runts are stellar models! I'm still assembling parts and figuring out packing, received some new magnets today. Hope to have good news soon. -eric

Man, those are neato for photo's. I'd like to get a few sizes to take photo's here if you ever decide to sell them.

Great pictures Bud. Exyzzy, I love the concept. Put me down for one when you decide to make some money off of them.

I would definitely want a couple also. Very cool!

Have you thought about other woods that align with the Fiddleback woods? Such as Desert Ironwood, Curly Maple etc? I would be interested to see what a Desert Ironwood one looks like. I have a few D.I. Fiddleback that are my favorites. There are others here with a bunch of D.I. Fiddlebacks that might be interested as well.

Thank you for your time and efforts on these. As others have already said, I bet this would be a pretty lucrative venture if you decide to do it.
