knife storage

My grandfather was a master wood crafter/builder and made a huge tool chest that he took to work.he's in a home now so he gave me his old tool chest for my knives.I have over 30 knives in there( mostly fixed blades) plus a hawk and it's not even half full yet.

I use a map chest, similar to a small blueprint cabinet. I rebuilt mine after getting it from an antique store. They are available new from www.homedecorators.com
These are wonderful if you have a lot of knives.Mine has quite a few more drawers, but then again I have a LOT of knives.
I outgrew the Gerstner chest years ago. It now is a jewelry box.

I have one of those copies of a Gerstner chest, cost about $60 or so a few years ago. It's not the same quality of course, won't take a real beating like a mechanic's box but it does a good job of just storing stuff and it looks nice.

I place mine in padded wooden cigar boxes. You can get these cigar boxes free at many local cigarette shops.

Btt....I was wondering if anybody has found anything better. The Tool box sure works for me but I am open to other suggestions.

I use a wood tool box I got on Amazon for less then $50 including the shipping. Also, I like to use cigar boxes, but they tend to be small and expensive.

I had a case built by a guy here in Louisiana it has 4 drawers about 1" deep and 4 drawers about 6" deep the top has a piece of beveled glass in it so your top tray is visible. It has 2 doors that close and lock. it's built out of cherry so it looks nice that in turn allows it to be in the house without the wife complaining. If I remember right I paid 200 for it but I supplied the wood.

That is difficult to build one of something. You can almost build a dozen of them as easy as you could build one of them. I had a full time job once where I took the blue prints from the architect and it was up to me to draft up the shop prints to actually building the item.
