Hi guys,

My friend will be visiting NYC for few days. It's not long enough to order something from BladeHQ or other online store. Are there any good knife stores in NYC, preferably in Manhattan?

Is Hoffritz Cutlery still around up there? I have a SAK from there I bought a long time ago.

There was a Boy Scout store in midtown in the 30s I think. I stopped in a few years ago and they had SAKs and a couple other slipjoints.

Best made has some knives and a lot of other cool stuff. Other than paragon you wouldn't find many due to NYC law. If you are mobile there are a few places in New Jersey just 10-20 mins north on route 17. Ramsey outdoor, campmoor and rei. All are within ten minutes of each other on route 17. Good luck

What kind of knives are you looking to get? J&R has a selection of SAKs as well in their hardware storefront.

I haven't spent as much time in the City as in days gone by, but it's sounding like other than what's mentioned above the pickings are getting pretty slim--even the army/navy stores(Iceberg, M*A*S*H) and the older martial arts supply places that had basic import stuff seem to be drying up...

Paragon is the only half-decent spot I can think of. REI on Houston has SAK's and various multitools but that's about it. Lowe's and Home Depot has your basic selection of Case and Kershaw, maybe a few Gerbers.

[Hoffritz is done, it's sold it's name, and is now a kitchen brand. Remington is gone. If the J and R is J and R Music World, they're done too, although they might do something with Century 21.

Ya make me feel old.

1970 I started with the General Post Office in New York, walked through Penn Station. Bought my first Spyderco in Hoffritz there, a Pro-Venator. Bought a few other toys over the years.

Worked nights at Church Street Station, next to the World Trade. Used to come down early to go down Park Row and look in on all the J&R stores. Bought a few calculators and a lot of music.
