I'm headed to Germany for a couple of weeks, what kind d of stuff should I look out for? Any knife related places or things I should visit?

I'd love to bring back a sharp souvenir or two.

I'm also planning on a day trip to Prague, anything to look out for there?

Any other travel recommendations for the trip would be awesome as well.

In Prague, there's a rather decent knife shop on Narodni trida on the end away from the National Theater.

A day trip to Prague is pretty useless, but here's a link to info I've posted on Prague that deals with knives, and the city.

I can give you more info on Germany if you're a little more specific about where you're going. I've lived there and go back on a regular basis. Spent 3 weeks there last year.

I will be around amberg. I'll be there for about two weeks, but only one weekend.

OK. Amberg is halfway between Grafenwhor and Hohenfels, so most of the guys who've been in Germany on a tour know where it is. It's a nice little town with a decent church. You're close to Bamberg if you want to chase college girls. You're about an hour from Nuremberg (West) and an hour from Regensburg (South).

Nuremberg, which had a huge rep for building armor in Gothic times, does not have a really good knife shop. Here's a mural of the smith at work:

Still, there are good displays at the Bavarian History Museum if you're into that stuff. You can also find a good amount of old military tuff, but be very careful with WWII stuff. Most is fake and anything with a swatsika on it will get you in trouble (it's illegal). Still, the castle is one of the best to look at for the quality of the forifications, and sometimes you can find a deal in the market square. Nuremberg does have a Frankonia Jagd (hunting) store. They have knives. They are expensive. See Google for location.

Regensburg has two good knife shops. I bought several knives there. Use Google for locations. They are only open until 5 pm M-F, and 10-2 on Sat. (normal for most stores). I like Regensburg, and it's an easy city to get around in. If you go, park outside the city center (by the river) and walk in.

One thing you should do, is buy any knife magazines you can find. Look at the Train Stations (Bahnhof), they have the best news stands. You can look thru them and see if there are any places near you in the ads.

Also, use your GoogleFu and see if there are any custom makers in the area you're visiting. Make sure you write them ahead of time to let them know you will visit, as many do this only part time.

Wods you'll want to know: (say them the way I spell them)

Messer = knife
zoo ver cow finn = to buy/to sell
vee toy'r = how much?
da dru been = over there

It's pretty easy to get around Germany; everybody speaks English and there's an Information booth in any city. Going into the old "East" is harder.

Thanks a bunch.

Are there any knife laws I should know about? Locking knives, one handed opening knives, assisted knives, ect?

I'm not sure about assisted knives, but the others will be okay. You may want to check the laws online as they will change by country. Patterns in Europe are slightly different than American ones, that's the fun part. Don't look to buy any "American" brands, they will cost 2-3 times as much over there. It's hard to find bargains, look for stuff you can't find at home. It helps if you know the brands. For example, I picked up a nice Herbertz that was new old stock and made in Germany about 15 years ago (the new ones are from China). It cost less than a Case, and is a lot nicer.

Don't forget newstands and tobacco shops will sell knives also, and if you collect SAKs you'll find patterns there that are hard to find overseas.
