Knife suggestions - different

This knife idea is a little different, it's not for me. My nephews have hit milestones in their lives.

The first one, youngest, passed his apprenticeship. He is no longer an apprentice lineman, he is now a Journeyman Lineman. If you have power in your home, thank a lineman. Think the post man has a rough job.

The older, has served 2 tours in Iraq and passed the tests to be a Staff Sergent in the Army. Well, what can I say, he deserves my respect.

Both fine young men. Both have worked hard to get where they are.

Just some thoughts on my choices:
1) 2 sebenzas out of the price range.
2) Something nice. Deserving of what they have done. And to serve them for years.
3) I was thinking Spyderco Para and a Sage 2. Don't get me wrong, I am not limited to Spyderco. Sibert 755?
4) Local laws AZ and CA. I want for them to use them, so around 3 inch blades.
5) Knife needs to take a beating.

Thanks for your help.

a sage 2 for each of them would be pretty cool, and maybe you could have their names engraved on them to make the knives more special.

Just ordered a Paramilitary for myself :) cant wait to get it, looks like a nice blade

I would stay away from the Sage 2. Especially for the nephew that serves our country in the Army. He'd rather have something with U.S.A. on the blade!

Para would be a better choice, except I prefer tip up carry.

Did you think about going with a nice EDC sized fixed blade. Maybe a Busse Game Warden or Active Duty. ??

Sure the Sage 2 is a prettier knife but the 755 feels like a freakin tank.

A Manix 2 or a Zero Tolerance 350 would be some other considerations for a good knife at a reasonable price.

I like my sage 2 and para too. I leaning towards a working knife, something they could use.

Busses' are good quality, but a little out of the price range since I have to get 2. What timing, 2 at once.

The 755's, are those as tough as they look? Like Drudge said about a tank, they look like they can take a beating.

My vote is for a Sage II, a ZT350, or the 755 MPR...

Perhaps an izula for each? or bravo necker?

What about going with an Emerson? I'm sure the E6 will appreciate a hard use, USA made knife

Concealed means CONCEALED. If they are otherwise law abiding, this is not much of an issue.

I doubt that you are going to find a more useful and appropriate knife than a Para-Military. One hand open and close, with arguably one of the strongest and safest locks in the business, backed up by a company that cares.

I would go with a multi tool like the Leatherman MUT or EOD which I will have a MUT as soon as it comes out. (not sure if you can wait, they ship in September) your nephew may have need for the EOD.

For the lineman I would also choose a Leatherman perhaps a Crunch.

I always carry a pocket knife in addition to a Leatherman but will choose the Leatherman over the pocket knife anyday.

I have worked as an Electrician's apprentice and the Leatherman was of infinately more valuable and am now in Law Enforcement and find that the Leatherman MUT should come in quite handy.

Just my .02 cents

The only thing I see wrong with a multi tool is, the military issues one and a lineman should have all of the screwdrivers and pliers in his tool bag.

Kershaw JYD2 with SG2 laminated blade is nice but I forgot how long is the blade. Within price range (below 200) and is solid.

Kershaw Lahar has a good solid lock. At 60 bucks each it is worth looking at. I like mine with it's VG-10 steel.

The new Cold Steel Voyager series has one with a suitable length blade and is laminated VG-1 steel. With it's super strong Tri-ad lock and I think it's within ur price range. Might want to get a tanto for the Military nephew.

Let us know what you decide, it'll be nice to know. hope this helps.

I have a JYD2. It's a good knife, but the blade is too wide for me. I would like to slip the blade behind bandages and cut from the inside out. A wide blade doesn't do it for me.

A thin blade is the trick for me.

Different knives do the job for different people.

Are they knife nuts? If not they might not now or understand the difference between a Sage 2 and a Delica. The Sage 2 is a outstanding knife but if I wasn't familiar with knives I might think it's just a boring metal handle knife. If they're seasoned knifenuts get them the Sage2, if they're not get them a Kershaw OD-1 or something similar with a fun opening mechanism because that's more likely to impress them and seem cool IMO.

The military is also issuing Benchmade AFO II's and Gerber 06. When I was working as an electrician the multi tool was always on my belt but my toolbox was always where I left it. I couldn't always wear my tool belt due to area constraints or having to snake around on my belly and although not always the best choice the multi tool usually bailed me out.

The multitool comes with a knife and depending which model you purchase it may come with ATS-34. I'm thinking that a multi tool will offer more options and be more useful in the end.

Believe me I have plenty of knives but 99% of the time at work I'm grabbing for the multitool and in that case when working around the car or farm the multitool is more useful.
