Knife suggestions - different

I have a JYD2. It's a good knife, but the blade is too wide for me. I would like to slip the blade behind bandages and cut from the inside out. A wide blade doesn't do it for me.

A thin blade is the trick for me.

Different knives do the job for different people.

I get your point, where normally a wide cutter is desirable, from a viewpoint of certain specialist it is not suitable. I think maybe a wharncliff (spelling?) hawkbill type with serrated edge will suit you nicely. A Cold Steel Ti-Lite is nice too but not serrated for medic requirements.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I made my decisions.

ZT 0350 and a Benchmade Bone Collector in D2.

The military is also issuing Benchmade AFO II's and Gerber 06. When I was working as an electrician the multi tool was always on my belt but my toolbox was always where I left it. I couldn't always wear my tool belt due to area constraints or having to snake around on my belly and although not always the best choice the multi tool usually bailed me out.

The multitool comes with a knife and depending which model you purchase it may come with ATS-34. I'm thinking that a multi tool will offer more options and be more useful in the end.

Believe me I have plenty of knives but 99% of the time at work I'm grabbing for the multitool and in that case when working around the car or farm the multitool is more useful.

+1 The multi tool is the way to go in my opinion. They would come in handy and probably be used more often, not as intimidating as far as local laws and could be nicely engraved. Even if the one nephew was issued a multi tool, it wasn't given to him by his uncle nor engraved. My vote Leatherman Wave engraved.

I see you made your decisions, but I would like to try and throw a wrench in the gears anyway. I like that you chose different knives for the two of them as they are doing different things with their lives. If you look at most electrician's knives, they are sheepsfoot or wharncliffe style blades. I would recommend something like that for your Linesman nephew. The blade shape helps a lot when cutting the sheaths off wires and without the pointed tip it keeps your hands a little safer. I can not comment on what a good knife would be for the military nephew as I have not served. Maybe a small fixed blade? No matter what you get them, it is a great gesture on your part. Congrats to them both on moving forward in their careers.
