im kind of new around here but ive been saving money (about 200 so far) for a nice knife, originaly i wanted to buy a dark ops shadow fixed blade but ive gotten mixed review on this company, and half the things in the knives description were questionable. anyhow i currently have only 2 knives (carson m-16 from ckrt, cold steel ti-lite) and im trying to expand my collection, so as far as a fixed blade combat oriented knife goes what would you all suggest. thanks for your time

Take a look at busse, swamp rat, Ranger, and even sog, kabar, cold steel etc. There are so many choices out there, I am sure you will find something you like..

Busse, as I've read, are probably among the best you could do in a combat fixed blade. They are very expensive (out of your price range) and hard to come by, especially if you want a specific model.

You may want to look at Kabar. That have some nice D2 Micarta handle fixed blades right now.

Becker is also a great choice.

you can order a Swamp Rat Ratweiler and a sheath for just around $200. Add 50-100 bucks or so, and you are in the market for a small to medium sized Busse.

Considering it will be your first "good" knife, I'd go with something that you will carry everyday. Either a small FB (good suggestions here) and a slim kydex for it, or just get a REAL folder soon. I'd hate to see you EDC a POS CRKT and leave a BUSSE at home.

PS: $200 will buy you a gorgeous fixed blade to your specs from many custom makers.

If I only had one knife to have for all situations...
Fallkniven A1. Supreme steel & design. Peace.

I think that a KaBar is the obvious answer for a future Marine….even though it probably won’t see all that much use in the Corps - especially as a fighting knife.

What will get used a lot are a good multitool such as the Leatherman Core and a folder such as the Spyderco Endura 4 or Pacific Salt. You should be able to get all 3....the Kabar, multitool and folder for around $200.

Good luck with your selection and welcome to BladeForums!

I got my kabar recently. Its a nice fun knife. If you want something more modern that is good value and can beat around without worry, try a Becker BK7 or 10.
ColdSteel SRK for something thinner.

All three are had for good prices.

thanks guys, im going to a army surplus store to take a look at a few of the ka-bars (i like the look of the warthog one, or just the traditional) im also thinking about a benchmade but i doubt ill be able to afford one. to bad about the dark ops, kinda liked those, what exactly are there shortcomings? thanks again guys
