Knife Survival Quiz

Thanks, I did enjoy that. Didn't get a very good score though... will be interesting to see how others stacked up. Here's a copy from my last page:

Answer
Correct! True enough. A sharpening steel cannot remove metal to resharpen a dull blade, but can realign an edge that has bent from use.
Your score is: 14 out of 20
How the crowd answered:
A: True 53.1%
B: False 46.9%

4431 people have answered this question.

Scorecard: How Sharp Is Your Knife?

18 - 20
Ouch!

15 - 18
I woulden't want to shave with your blade, but it can do what needs to be done.

12 - 15
Your steel has a few rough edges. Better touch it up.

17 out of 20.

Not bad for some guessing...

Woohoo. Perfect score. :D If you've read Kochanski's "Bushcraft", the questions are easy.

17/20

Misread one question (thought he was talking about the 6" poplar when answering the question for the saplings, ooops :o). Disagree on one answer (which is the easiest to resharpen in the field). Question about the handle shape I got honestly wrong.

I can't say I approve of the answer to question four, but I got early the impression that this was essentially an advertisement for Scandi knives, I knew what they wanted to hear.

cute, but doesn't provide factual info for the most part, just reinforcing the quiz maker's opinions

19/20. However, there was a number that I disagreed with in practicality, but answered based on what I knew was the academically correct response.

15 out of 20, but I did the opposite as you. Knew what they were looking for, but chose my personal opinion anyway. Guess I'm just stubborn.;)

15 out of 20 for me, a couple questions were a bit of a toss-up or compromise. I think I did pretty well considering I was watching TV at the same time, which we all know rots your brain. ;)

18 out of 20. Completely disagree with the batoning by driving in the tip first. Too easy to have an off center whack break the tip.

I got 17 out of 20 but I think that it should have been 18. The question about which type of wood could your 4 inch knife cut through was tricky. I said all of the above but apparently they wanted to know which would be easiest. I am giving myself a 17 and a half for a poorly written question.

One thing I found interesting was how well most people did on the questions. The feild and stream people seem to know their knives.

Woohoo! I still hold the number one spot for the lowest (14/20) score!

Canada, number one at being north of the United States.;)

Well, the advantage with the tip batoning is that the danger of springboarding is limited.
