Knife to Keep in Car

I also keep a Mora stainless companion in my car, and the always handy Kabar Dozier Hunter just in case I don't have a folder w me. The pair is less than $40.

My truck is ready for anythingI keep a Schrade 152ot,8ot,LB-7,Wegner cadet and a NRA belt cutter/windshied breaker. My wifes car has the same NRA,AA Leatherman and a RR whittler in pearl, the Fat-boy has a Coldsteel Voyager clipped in the saddle bag

Benchmade Triage. Has both a great blade and seatbelt cutter. High quality and should last a lifetime.

^Yep, got one of those in my daily driver too (blunt tip version). Then I gave it more thought, ugh, I've got the sickness BAD. Turns out I also have a Leatherman Juice, CRKT M-16, Dragonfly II G-10 and an Emerson La Griffe all in the same car, can't help keeping a blade close at hand.

Okay, since people keep bringing it up, if you want a glass breaker get a spring loaded center punch. Much, much easier and safer than things you have to swing, carbide or steel bits attached to knives or multitools, or even the punches that are part of a larger tool.

You can get a GOOD one for under $20, they're easy to store as they're roughly the size and shape of a pen and they carry vastly less risk of lacerating your hand and arm by accidentally putting it through the window as well.

So, to recap, $8 trauma shears, $20 spring loaded center punch and $12 Mora. That leaves you pretty set.

I agree with the center punch. That's a dead easy way to break a window.

However, if you don't have one, the average knife can break a window too. I know firsthand that it works. Just hold the knife with the tip against the glass with your weak hand, thrust your strong hand's palm into the end of the handle. That = broken window. Works by the same mechanics as the punch.

All these multiple tools could be condensed down to one quality blade if a person had their wits about them.

I just carry an aluminum pen with carbide glass breaker. It's funny when someone asks for a pen and they can't figure it out. And I break lots of Windows at the junk yard. Remember to wrap your sleeve or a rag around your hand if not wearing gloves. Or you'll be like the Cobra Kai Guy on karate kid 2.

In my driver door pocket I keep the long blade 748 Mora. Good for all around use and good self defense weapon.

if for safety in a car, I would recommend the victorinox rescue. otherwise for a great all around multi tool that is not rescue oriented, I would highly recommend the victorinox swiss champ. I keep it in my car and it is so very useful. I use it so much and it conveniently fits in many areas of the car.

Thank you to everyone that has replied so far on this thread! I really appreciate all of your input, advise and experience. :)

It's really going to suck when your car gets broken into and you loose all those man. I suggest lower cost and easy to replace items to the OP to store in his car.
Those have been in a variety of car's for years with no issues. I will stick with what I keep in my car, thank you very much. Oh, and I am a woman, not a guy. ;) :)

Your call and I am glad you have been lucky thus far but, it only takes one unlucky day and all your knives will be gone. It would just suck to loose a hard to replace item not to mention the added expense of so many pricey blades. I just makes more sense, to me anyway, to carry easy to replace and less costly options in a higher risk environment like a car. YMMV.

In my car is a Swiss Army knife, a Swiss Tool, and a cheap Gerber fixed blade. Probably a hatchet as well.

Especially when the knives would likely be sold under $30

Victorinox has two different 4 1/2" serrated utility knives that would probably do well on seat belts and webbing. Not to mention spreading mustard on a sandwich and whatnot. One is about $4, the other about $10.

I have a similar Henckels knife in the kitchen. Works well on tomatoes.

Baryonyx has a pointed one with a sheath quite reasonably priced.

Mora, cheap and reliable. I keep several around but don't keep a dedicated spare knife in the truck, though I do keep a machete in the back for clearing brush at archery ranges.
Smart^^^

Order up a few moras and keep them in tactical locations, and forget about them till you need them!

I keep a SOG seal pup in the door of my truck. I bought the knife back before I knew a thing about knives, and it's far, far from my favorite. So it gets truck duty.

Other than that, it's whatever is in my pocket/on my belt/in my pack.
