That's a beautiful finish on that maple handle. Looks almost like tiger-eye.

I've been reading up on how to get that look. First dye the maple a dark brown or black, sand off most of the dye which will leave some in the more porous areas where the grain runs out and then either dye it an amber/brown color or just finish it with your choice of oil/varnish blend. Guitar makers have been doing this for a while.
 
Great matchup Pit! Like both the pup and the knife! If i were to get a knife to match my dog it would be bitch colored ...hehe the little heffer...i love her :)
