Knife/Tool setup for bushcraft

I like lost Vikings posts. Ill try to add to it. Just use as many knives for as many things as you can. You'll eventually get down to the essentials. Honestly I've been on both extremes: tons of gear and super light weight.

It's both fun. If you're a gear guy, embrace it, it's fun. I love bringing three or four knives with me. I normally find myself reaching for one after a bit but that's how you know.

I have three or four different sleepi systems and my favorite has been sleeping under the stars (none). That doesn't mean I don't like setting up my huge MSR Mutha Hubba and feeling like I have a small apartment in the woods.

Just get out there, use your stuff. All your questions will eventually be answered. Last time I went backpacking I brought a puukko, kephart, nessmuck and a GB hatchet. I didn't use any of them. I even did the fire building.

A lot of random ideas, I know. Just go use your gear, have fun.

Thank you Lost Viking and LukeTheSpook, and everybody!!! I guess I am kind of fussing too much. I love being in the woods and I just want to have the right tools to do it. I appreciate all of the advice very, very much! I'm so glad I can share my passion with others who love it too, although I am pretty new to this forum. Thank you so much!!!

LONG LIVE THE OUTDOORS!!!!!!!!

What an amazing post. I have spent nary the time you have in the dirt (10+/- years) and felt I gained a glimmer of additional info, simply reading that. Just wanted to thank you for sharing your knowledge with me. Holes in the toothbrush... Can't wait to get home and start drilling :)

My typical loadout for 3-7 day runs would be Mora Bushcraft Black -for in camp use, Grans camp axe - for wood processing, and an ESSE 6 or BK7 - just to play with. It seems to cover about everything I need in Kentucky in just about all seasons. I keep the big knife and axe in/on my pack, and never take more than 2 steps without the Mora. Most of my "sleep system" consists of Tyvex tarp for shelter, and a wool blanket. My problem is I tend to bring along 87 ways to start fires, and 104 ways to purify/collect water. Still learning that part. I don't bring much in the line of food, because there is plenty to keep me going for a few days (just a small pan/pot for boiling water)
