I lost my mind and traded a bowie knife I made for a horse.

I traded this:

She's a 6yr old Paint. As you can see, they ran out of paint when she was born. The owner wanted to get rid of her and she was headed to a commercial horse trader( meat buyer).
One look and I was in trouble. I asked how much and he said "how about one of your bowie knives"
I didn't need a horse, but oh well.
Now I am scratching to find enough hay for the winter. We are in a summer long drought and hay is scarce.
Just call me nuts.

By the look of those anvil size hooves, she might be of some use in the forge with a little training.

Nice trade. Now go make another knife to wear while you ride.....;)

Nice Bowie

Foowy on the Saddle...
Kansas City Bar-B-Que sauce!

I'm being ornary....but I think you are committed to feeding that pony until he/she is healthier!

if she were a bit bigger, I'd call her a chestnut that got a little painted  :D
BTW get some food into her :)

Dang Mike, I thought I was the only one that traded knives and hawks for another mouth to feed and worry about. I have done pretty good for awhile no horses on the place for about 10 months now, good timing considering the drought we're in. Ya got any more bowies. I got a few saddles that need to be sitting on something other than rack. HeHeHeHe.

She's not as thin as she looks in the pic. We had just got her off the trailer and introduced to my daughter's horses. Things were a bit tense .

Heres a later pic.

Still getting to know each other, but better.

Stuart, I have plenty of tack but we can work something out on the bowie.;)

I have always maintained that no one owns a horse at least for long

It is like magic they must sent out some kind of telepathic message to other horses that they have found an sucker to feed and care for them. Pretty soon it is 2 horses and then as your picture demonstrates 3 horses. Now the 3 of them will join powers and work on bringing in number 4. I knew a lady back in Montana that had over 30 in semi retirement on her place. You best get to hammering out those bowies.

I would say its not a bad trade. If you want number four I have a paint stud he is tovero. I could trade a breading for a knife. I am only joking. I live in northern Mi. It would be a little far to go for that and I am not willing to mail the frozen stuff.

We have also had a bad year for hay. I have heard in the U.P. square bales are going for $4.50 I can get it for $2.50. I live in a vally area that stays wet. How much is it down there? Also the horse market is bad since the influx of horses from Canada when they shut down the hormone farms.

We have three and are boarding one but it seems like every week some one wants to give me another one. At this point horse is much cheaper than beef. I wonder what it tastes like. No I dont think I could eat horse unless I had to.

Good luck finding hay Will Crump

Nice trade!!I miss having horses.Good luck with her
I just entered the world of bartering too,so far i got 1 tattoo.

Had the vet check out the new horse yesterday. Other than being under weight, she's in good shape. All shots are now up to date.
I don't think she has ever been shod, but other than being dry, her hooves are in good shape. She stood and lifted well when I shaped and dressed the hooves.
Need to get the weight up and exercise before riding. I did ride her bare back for a while with no problems. Did about 15 min on the lunge line and she obviously has been well trained.

Nice looking animal  My horses are Yamaha Big Bears, they don't eat much ;)

That's so goofy. We've had drought but it didn't start till after our hay was cut (4th of July weekend). And we had pretty nice hay in comparison to yrs past. We never get a 2nd cut up here, never. I sell my hay to a farmer for 10 cents/sq. bale, he cuts it. Sounds like the "gas shortage" eh ? ;)
