Hi everyone, I have new knives that I bought years back that have never been carried or sharpened. My question is how critical is it to keep the original boxes if I ever went to sell them , would they be worth alot less without the original boxes ?

They are worth much more with the boxes. The better consition the boxes the more valuable the knife. It's like any collectable items, if the original packaging is available, the value is higher.

It all depends on who your selling them to. Like if your selling a standard spyderco military to someone for sue, they wont care. If they are rare knives and you sell them to a collector then the box is important. Mind you it's not as important compared to things like action figures.

IMHO, boxes & its contents are only worth something to collectors. A user knife person is only concerned with the condition of the knife & sheath. At least thats the way it is for me. Mine are all users & the blades are a little scuffed on the black coatings.

Thanks Guys, Some of the knives I'm talking about are a few Becker Camillus knives before they were taken over by K-Bar , the Becker Necker, BK-7, and BK-9. Some Sogs all from Seki , Trident , Recon Bowie , Scuba Demo , and Pentagon. Spyderco Manix C95 . Strider Ed neck knife with the bullet holes. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I did save some of the boxes ( Scuba Demo , Spyderco Manix C95 , and one of the Beckers.

Depends on the knife. I've seen some models in which it doesn't seem to matter, and others that sell at a premium because of intact packaging.

But regardless of whether the packaging increases value or not, it always increases "desirability." Two identical knives for sale at the same price, one without the box and one with, guess which one will sell first?

Not only is the packaging helpful for dating an item, sometimes the box labels are the only way to know which model the knife is, and packaging can give important clues to a knife's origins. And sometimes the boxes themselves become collectible.
