Firstly, I'm a long time satisfied customer of KnifeCenter going back to at least 2011. Orders are fulfilled and shipped within an expected time.

However, my last order with KnifeCenter was not a good experience.

When I ordered a Spyderco Sage 5 early Tuesday morning it was in stock and my order confirmation email of 8:13am PT also said in stock. I was expecting it to ship on Tuesday.

28 hours after my order I sent them an email on Wednesday at 11:32am PT having not heard anything from them and my order still said processing:

"When I ordered the Spyderco Sage 5 yesterday morning it was in stock as you can see from my order below.

However, in checking the status of my order it now says back order!

So, which is it?"

Their reply:

“We were unfortunately filling back orders at the time you placed the order, so they momentarily showed in stock. These are gradually trickling in from the manufacturer. They're filling preorders on a first-come, first served basis, but I don't have a scheduled delivery date for the item unfortunately. It is beyond our control, but we will absolutely keep you notified as they become available.”

I had to initiate contact with them after they changed my in stock order to back order without even notifying me!

I replied to them:

“It would've been courteous of you to advise me ASAP once you knew the in stock order was switching to a back order. It would've given me the opportunity to place an order elsewhere while it was still in stock. Now, I have to restart my pursuit.”

No further reply from KC!

I gave up using them over the the whole backorder issue. It happened to me more than once. I don't remember exactly what happened to exacerbate the problem, but I remember telling them that I was done with them. I am not that unforgiving that a stock issue or two would have made me write them off. I know that the situation wasn't rectified satisfactorily, so I just decided to part paths since I had plenty of knife suppliers that didn't cause me grief.

Placed another order with KnifeCenter today and received the order and in stock email notification at 10:25am PT. Order has shipped already!

I like KnifeCenter and their knifeREWARDS bonus points but that order of Tuesday should not have happened the way it did without any correspondence from them until I initiated it.

Knifecenter is overpriced and unprofessional compared to their many peers. Much better options out there.

They arent the cheapest everytime for sure, but ive done lots of business with them for years now and spent many thousands of dollars. They make a mistake here and there but have always done me right.

Glad they got back on track on your latest order, op.

KnifeCenter prices are not the best and ordinarily I avoid them except for MAP priced items where every dealer sells it pretty much at MAP. For instance, Zero Tolerance, Spyderco, Benchmade and Todd Begg. If I'm paying the same price everywhere with shipping I may as well accumulate points towards gift cards.

Not to mention they run promotional freebees that can sometimes be worth while like kitchen sheers. Also they can do special promos to lesson the impact of MAP like a BM tune up kit I got once with torx bits, lube, cleaner, and sharpener. The points are really nice and add up quick. I didn't even think to look but found that I had a $50 gift card. So yes, for MAP stuff it makes sense.

I've had a couple slow shipping experiences with no communication as to why but never experienced what you did RamZar. That would be frustrating.

The problem for me is the payment method. They lost FOUR purchases of mine in the past months because of that...
They said that ship overseas. How could I pay if they dont accept international credit card in the first order??
It´s all a difficulty...And they charge you with a $30 fee on the first wire transfer purchase...For me this is outrageous.
