knifeforums,knifeart,azck ... porno equivalent?

I think SurfWatch is actually run by the NSA

Seriously, its kind of scary that they have the power to censor what people see. Last time I checked I was still living in the United States, which is supposed to be a free and democratic nation

WTF?

I'm going to my "Ethics in the Information Age" class in half an hour. I'll be bringing this into the discussion, somehow.

One correction. Leatherman is blocked by their "Productivity" filter, if you set up SurfWatch to keep your employees away from shopping sites generally on the office computers. Maybe all they saw was the needle-nose pliers. Victorinox.com, however, is blocked by their "Core" filter, just like "www.nekkidninjadeathmongers.com."

Schools have long censored what books are in the library, what video material students are shown in classes, etc. It is only right and proper that they should also censor what children have access to on the internet. Likewise, employeers have every right to restrict employee internet access when they're paying for the service and expecting employees to use it for work-related applications.

There are many places where just about anyone with a computer can get unrestricted internet access for little if any cost.

I am confused. Where does Surfwatch or Net Nanny or any other such "service" get their authority? This is absurd. What nerve. I do not need some liberal watchdog group making decisions for me. How can they be stopped? Are they not interferring with commerce?

This is GREAT!

I love being blocked by a censor.

I had always wanted to have some "babe custom knife pictures" online at KnifeArt . Maybe I will give that a try. A good looking girl can only make a great knife better...

see you guys at the oregon knife show or later at Blade.

Well, I certainly think a lot of your knives are sexy! But speaking of sex oriented items originating from the greater Little Rock area... my son was supposed to do an article on the White House. Seems he went to www.whitehouse.com instead of www.whitehouse.gov. Whew! I want my 11 year old son looking at knives!

SurfWatch and Net Nanny get their "authority" from the customers who buy their product, hoping to protect young minds from evil "stuff" on the Net. And there are a lot of places out there where a lot of us wouldn't want to take the kids.

SurfWatch's filtering policies seems to be much more "sheeple-oriented" than Net Nanny's, since Net Nanny doesn't block knife pages, and doesn't block places like Smith & Wesson or Heckler & Koch. I didn't try looking up a really "hard-core" weapons page to see if Net Nanny would declare it "not for kids." And there's enough of an "evil impulse" in me that if I did find a link to www.nekkidninjadeathmongers.com, I might well follow it.
