Hey all, a week ago I decided to trade my ZT 0550 for Knifehunt's (His name is Mike) Spyderco Southard. Since I only have 3 positive feedbacks, I shipped mine first. I was completely fine with this, he has more than 5 times the number I have.

Any ways, I shipped the 0550 out in a USPS Priority Small flate rate box, tracking number and all. The package arrived to Mike opened, the knife STOLEN, and replaced with a Husky $5 home depot knife. Straight up, even the ZT box was gone. Both of us were incredibly disappointed. I have contacted USPS, but we haven't worked anything out. I did not insure the package, as I usually don't for a priority box. That was my mistake. I will insure something that is sent in a padded envelope, but I've never had any trouble with a box. I understand insuring something against rough handling, that is to be somewhat expected, but I should NOT have to insure against some USPS employee stealing my damn knife! What is this? I'm incredibly disappointed.

I doubt USPS will do anything about it though. But I've learned my lesson.

Even though it was totally not his fault, and Mike had every right to simply keep his Southard and forget about the whole thing, he just sent me $75 dollars in paypal! Half of what the original 0550 was worth.

Guys, let it be known that Mike, AKA Knifehunt, is a gentleman and more than a pleasure to deal with. He went out of his way to rectify a situation that was not even his fault. Never have any qualms about dealing with him in the future, and he has my greatest respect.

Thank you Mike! Despite many knife trade horror stories, there are still people out there that are more than trustworthy!

Thank you,
-AJ

I am about to do a trade. I am going to make it where he has to sign for it. I put so much tape on the box it just cant be open and then taped back up again with out it being noticed. I am surprised that the post office is not looking into that for you. you did file a complaint about it didn't you?? if not then you need to go down there and do just that.

AJ, thank you for the kind words. We have had several issues with our Postal Service in the past, and kids in the neighborhood lifting packages from the mailbox, and doorsteps. I'm not sure If I will ever use the USPS again for shipping or look at a different method?

As far as the $75.00 goes, AJ did not want to accept the money as he felt he should have insured the package. No way could I have let him absorb the entire loss, as we entered the deal together. I felt that we set sail together, and I would not let him go down with the ship alone. My wife actually agreed I should split the difference of the value of the ZT and send it to AJ.

AJ is a new member with a lower feedback rating, but I trust him 100% and believe he really did send what he said he did. We have been trading emails for the past few days, and I got a really good feeling that he is a good person, and would not deliberately cheat anyone. I would not hesitate for one second dealing with him in the future.

All the best AJ,
Mike

Haha good way to do it!

Yes I did file a complaint though. I filed it Friday evening but haven't heard back from them. I expect to hear from them tomorrow. I will be sure to update this post as to what they say, and happily send the $75 back if they do indeed come up with some sort of compensation.

All I can say is WOW . This is a good and bad story all the way around. Knifehunt that way a very nice gesture .

What else can a person do in a situation like that? Unfortunately the USPS will do nothing for him as it was not insured, and I could not let him take a hit like that. You're lucky if you get anything even when a package is insured! They make you jump through hoops, and in the end they have some ridiculous rule that covers them. I have found out the hard way that insurance means nothing to them.
