How is the quality of knives from knifekits.com? From what I've heard the balisongs on the site are of high quality for the price, but can the same be said for their other folding knives? They have a few knives with AUS8 steel, and they look fairly nice finish wise, but do any of you have experience with them?

knifekits.com is popular with people looking to break into knife making or just want to get it a try....many have bought from there and i have yet to hear of any disappointments...and u know us...if its not quality we wont get it....

Well.

IMO the folders can be hit and miss.

I have built several models , the best one so far quality wise was the GX6 , pricey though for a kit but the end result was nice. I have built the American Whittler , decent enough slipjoint but took a ton of modification, no complaints otherwise.
The FLX25 is one hell of a robust frame-lock for the money , it has incredibly thick handle resulting in a very sturdy lock , one could do a lot of modification.
The Lonestar lockback was a fun little project , but frustrating too. The directions are always informative but I really recommend reading them a few times before starting the project.
I've built some more of the cheaper kits , to be honest I would spend more and get the higher dollar kits, the cheaper kits have the same feel to them when completed IMO except for FLX25.

The blade steel ( while pretty thick on the lock and slip ) is done well and takes a very nice edge.

got a kit knife from linville k&t, model#007. fun and easy to assemble. good blade geometry and seems to be pretty tough steel, use it in the kitchen but the solid steel bolsters are a little too heavy and uncomfortable for me to consider as an edc
