Knifemakers Collection

No David, I don't own any of my knives. Because of the long waiting list I can't afford the time to make anything for myself. But there are a couple of pieces out there that I would love to get back some day.

In my opinion, Wolfgang, there should be "out there" many more
than just a couple of your knives that you would love to get back,
even if you try very hard to pick and choose.......... :)

All the best,

On this glorious Sunday morning I'm reminded that God said He created men in His own image; these knives bear witness to that truth, especially the Kelso.

Wolfe,
I love your taste in knives. It is interesting that they are very different from what you are associated with (other than the Herman collaboration). I guess opposites attract?

I do love damascus, unfortunately it is often used just for the sake of using damascus. Knives designed to take full advantage of the aesthetics of the material are very special.

Superb and very interesting choices.

A vibrant magination is clearly an asset of yours.

The Kelso is one I keep coming back, over and over, to look at. It is quite. Unglaublich!

Yes, the Kelso is a fascinating knife. It looks much better in hand. The detail is incredible. You can not see it in the photo, but the flower stems and leafs continue into the holes of the partially hollow handle. The patined silver, copper and gold show Jim's mastery of the process. It's unfortunate that he is making so few knives.

Jim Kelso made some trully incredible pieces. The work displayed on his site is a good example.

A few years ago he told me that he was done with knives, that he had moved on to other things. He's done some beautiful things. He often displayed his work in WIP threads on Don Fogg's forum.

For anybody interested, there is a six page fully illustrated article
on Jm Kelso's spectacular knife art in the introduction section of my
second book on custom knives, "Art and Design in Modern Custom Fixed-Blade Knives".

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
