Hello I am a canadian traveling though the southern states right now
A friend a I drove down and across from british columbia down to madisonville KY

I started making knives with a hand belt grinder and a vise and files
heck to heat treat my first knives I used a sink and a regular house fan

I bought a kmg grinder a few months ago but I traveled though canada and still havent even used it once yet due to me requiring to hook up 220v into my garage.

I havent worked on making knives in a few years but now since I am down here I really want to get some good experiance from someone who knows what they are doing.

I am willing to travel westward and up on my way back to canada if anyone is willing to give me some lessons (I will pay and am willing to pay well depending on what you can teach me) it would help me greatly.

on the way down I traveled though washington, Idaho ,montana, south dakota, nebraska, iowa, mo, indiana, finally arriving in kentucky

quite the trip, something I have never done before, In canada they seem to teach you that US has been robbed and stripped of its natural resources and heavily poluted and so on now i see its quite the opposite.
people down here are much more friendly as well

Hopefully I can find someone to teach me, I just turned 21 a month ago (give or take a few days) so i can buy the beer too.

Ha I guess I ramble too much no one has anytime they can spare im willing to pay a decent amount for your time just let me know

im down in texas. if you come to texas and are in san antonio just swing on out my way. you are more than welcome to stop by. email me if you want to come out or you can give me a call.

Im not sure if were going that way but you never know we undecided at this point,

Thanks for the offer though if were head to texas I will give you a call though and we will work some metal.

So far I am enjoying it down here most canadian's are afraid to go down too far because they hear of all the crime and guns in certain places,

but its all good you dont have much to fear, I see people with guns in on there porches and in there yards something I have never seen in canada but its not like they are going to shoot you

bryce,

Where are you from in BC?
Here in BC we have the http://www.wcka.org/ and the club puts on events for learning various knifemaking skills. Get a hold of me when you get back if you want more info and if that KMG 220 volt is a problem I know someone here in BC that would buy it off you. There is a locally made one that you can hook up to 110v if you like.
BC is full off great knifemakers that are happy to share information for no cost just like you would throughout the US. People are people and you will find good folks and bad everywhere you go. ;)

Just make sure you knock first!
Swing through Illinois after the Blade Show and we'll swap knife lessons for fishing rights!

220 isnt a problem i bought a dc motor because i wanted to have varible speeds i just havent taken the time to do it yet, between fulltime work and traveling in canada I figure while Im young I should experiance what I can
as what I see and do will constantly change my perspective in life and when I am settled i will have less of a chance of that.

I have approched bc knifemakers before they straight up told me they didnt have time and this was a business I understand that everyone has to make a living and worked on my own.

Knifemakers whose names begin with the letter "P" are not the only knifemakers around BC. ;) Everybody has their own agenda but some are happy to give back and still enjoy this "business"
Every knife maker I have met here from Ed Storch, Bob Lay, Rodger Hatt, Frank Niro, Marty Beets to name a few have been nothing but gracious and willing to get a guy pointed in the right direction. Dont paint em all with the same brush. :)

Nah I wouldnt say that about them all but after that I was kind of dissapointed and honestly didnt really want to go and find other people to turn me down,

Besides most of what I have learned in life has been self taught,
I have also worked as a machinest and currently work as a mechanic I learned how to do both of those trades in my garage I figured why not knifemaking.

I figure I have alot to learn about... Well... everything at 21 I havent gotten as much time on this earth as most of the makers on here I just need some experiance
