I just saw something mentioned in another thread about the Knifemaker's Guild Show in Louisville KY on Sept 19-22. I am new to knife making and have never attended any type of show or convention of this sort before. Is this something a beginner/enthusiast would find valuable and or entertaining? There seems to be several things going on over those four days, what would I want to attend? I assume that there is an opportunity to purchase supplies as well as completed knives? Are many bladeforum members attending, as spectators or venders?

In a word, YES.

The Guild show is one of the two biggest, most important knife shows in the country, and perhaps the world. (the other being BLADE)

Go for it. Seriously.

You will see some of the finest knives ever made, ranging from classic to tactical to high-art to basic utility knives. You will see collector's exhibits that include knives of historical and monetary value far beyond compare. You will have a chance to meet true giants (old and new) in the custom/handmade knife field, and not only examine their craftsmanship, but speak with them face-to-face and pick their brains. There will be vendors with outstanding knifemaking supplies.

Also, it happens to be in a really cool neighborhood. Take your time and bring a camera :)

Okay, that sounds like more fun than Big Rock Candy Mountain! There are some big names listed as having tables, also many that I don't know. And admission is free, with the appropriate printed ticket I believe. Only a couple hours away and have family in town, I can't think of a reason not to go. Yes it is a very cool section of town. Thank you for the information. Will any of the venders or makers that regularly post on here be showing? (that way I can do my homework before I go)
