One week away!

The Guild Show will be in Kentucky for the first time at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in downtown Louisville. This is going to be a good one folks. We have 135 tables of handmade custom knifemakers who are bringing some incredible stuff to show and sell. There will be door prizes, awards, seminars and drawings for custom knives.

The Presidents Gala for Honorary members is going to be great at this new venue on Thursday evening. If anyone is interested in becoming an honorary member of the Guild contact me. Benefits include tickets to the Gala, early admission to the show before it opens to the public, newsletter, and a few other perks.

Come on out. Louisville is more convienent to get to than anyplace the Guild show has been in recent history. We have a major airport 15 minutes from the show and easy Interstate access via I-65 from the north and south, I-71 from the northeast and I-64 from the east and west.

In addition, Louisville is a great place to visit with lots of other things to do and see. The show is within walking distance of the Frazier Historic Arms museum with a great collection including hundreds of items on loan from the Royal Armory in the Tower of London. For baseball fans the Hillerich & Bradsby "Louisville Slugger" factory and basball museum is a few blocks away as is our waterfront park on the Ohio river and the oldest operting authentic sternwheel steamboat The Belle of Louisville.

The Seelbach itself is a wonderful and elegant historic hotel. It has just completed a $45M renovation with all of the rooms furnished with authentic period antiques mixed with modern conveniences like flat screen TVs. This hotel was frequented by Al Capone back in the day and even has secret doorways and passages so he could escape when necessary. The hotel was the inspiration and backdrop for F Scott Fitgerald's "The Great Gatbsy" and it was the location where the pool hall scenes were filmed for "The Hustler" with Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. The basement houses the Rathskellar room which has the only surviving Rookwood pottery decor in the world along with a handcarved leather ceiling.

Just outside the hotel is Louisville's "Fourth Street Live" which has numerous restaurants, clubs, and live entertainmment.

See the knifemakers Guild Website at http://www.knifemakersguild.com for more information, list of exhibitors and to print your FREE PASS to the show. Come on guys, this is going to be a good one!

Though I've had 3 good years in a row in Florida I'm really looking forward
to this show.
Ken.

I understand that the hotel rooms are about $260 but also have been informed that nearby is a hotel for $75. I hope that the show does well as i have always enjoyed the Guild show and hope many collectors will attend. Not this year for us but we are planning next years extensive trip and plan to have the Guild show as our final destination before coming home.

The Guild had a block of rooms at the Seelbach at a special rate of $125 but they may be sold out. That's a real bargain for a 4-star hotel like this one. It's a lot cheaper than it was in Orlando and at a much nicer hotel.

There are several other hotels in all price ranges nearby. Several are downtown within walking distance of the Seelbach. Lower priced hotels are about 15 minutes away around the airport. There are also several hotels just across the river in Jeffersonville, Indiana (about 10 minutes drive).

I live in Louisville so if anybody needs any information, directions or recommendations, please ask and I will be happy to help.

Hey, Mike, that is great info. I had thought that the Guild had gotten a better rate too but did not have the current info. Nice to know that you live there so I'm sure collectors looking for something will be able to contact you if necessary. Is there good parking nearby particularly for those such as myself (for next year) that drive a conversion van that has a raised roof and won't fit into the underground parking that so many hotels have. Sure hope to hear lots of info about the show and it would be nice to see photos too. Last years show I did was posted to CKCA.

Oh yes, I will be taking lots of pictures and covering the show for Blade Magazine.

The seelbach does not have it's own parking garage but it leases space in the city owned garage next door. There are several multi-level garages and a few uncovered parking lots nearby. I don't know what the clearance is for the covered garages. There is also a lot of metered street parking on all of the surrounding streets.

Fourth Street Live, which is right outside the hotel, often draws thousands for concerts and special events so there is plenty of parking around the area.

The Seelbach does have shuttle service to and from the airport so those who may be flying in you really don't need a car unless you want to go sightseeing outside of downtown. There are plenty of restaurants, entertainment, clubs and just about anything you would want within easy walking distance of the hotel.

Mike, Hope everyone has a good show. I will be looking forward to seeing what you have in the Blade.

Great new location. Wish I was able to attend this one.
Hope everyone has an excellent show.

I have just arrived in the States and I will be there on friday to attend for the first time since '87...........:)
I can't wait......see you all then.
Steven

I just spent 2 days in Chicago talking to Doug Casteel about the guild and the Guild Show. It sounds like one of the finest shows to go to. I cant make it this time around but possibly next year.
Show us some pictures when you get back. Have a good one Mike.

WOW, the Knifemakers' Guild 40th Anniverary Show is only a couple of days away. The new location in Louisville, Ky has really gained new support for the show. I sure hope to meet some of you at the show. The TV ads are indredible thanks to Mike Carter. Good job Mike!
Linda

Linda & Gil, we are looking forward to hearing good things from the show and hope that there are collectors there that can give both a written and photo report of the show.

I hope so to. I know that Mike Carter is covering for Blade magazine. Your support and comments are greatly appreciated.

I just got back from the Presidents Gala for Honorary Guild Members. Great crowd. Much bigger crowd than when I was last at the Guild Show in Florida two years ago.

Guys, I got to see what a lot of the knifemakers brought and I can tell you this is going to be one awesome show! Gayle Bradley, Warren Osborne, Ron Best,Wes Hibben, Zach Whitson, Stan Wilson, Kit Carson, Des Horn and a bunch more all had stuff that just blew me away.

Wes Hibben has a sword that is just stunning. Ronald Best has started making folders if you think his integrals are amazing wait til you see his folders.

I'm telling you staight, if you can get to Louisville this weekend this is going to be a show to remember.
