Okay, I figure this poll may take some time to gather data, but I would really like to see as many possible maker's participate to make this a good poll.

Please select your routine blade making style:

1. Forge

2. Stock Removal

3. Stock Removal AND Forge

Thanx to all for joining in!

At this time, I can only grind. Neighbors wouldnt take too kindly to all the hammering noise, but I will move eventually and start forging too.

Dando-

You might be suprised. My nieghbors don't mind at all and they are only 15 feet away from my either side of my house. I do try not to run the power hammer past 9 or 10 at night though.

They asked me what I was doing down there in the basement and ever since I "got them involved" they are some of my best critics. Of course this is one of my more "sane" interests. They are probably just happy that I am not still doing dangerous stuff anymore, well at least the BATF is happy. ;)

Bruce,

For you I would say (1) for forge.

My definition:

Ground straight from steel, with no forging at all, even a little = stock removal maker. Not speaking about the grinding/stock removal necessary to clean off scale and true up lines from forging.

Thanx for voting!

Well I forge all my blades..

But now in all honesty most all forged blades will end up being ground on sooner or later thus you still have some stock removal to do anyway...Some forge all the way to shape with no grinder clean up and thus a fully forged blade.

George,I guess I go both ways also:eek:  (but guess what So do you:D :D :D He-He

Bruce

Since I found out how much fun forging is, most of my work is now forged. I still do some stock removal work in 440-C, but not very much lately.:D

All the best,
Mike U.

I us ethe stock removal method. One day however when I have more sapec and tools I will attempt forging. Not as my sole style of knifemaking but just for the hell of it. It's a facsinating art that I'd like to get to know better. Here's one of my Kerambit. Peace....RDT

I can't vote on the poll because I'm just a schmuck basic member. But I am strictly a forging dude. No stock removal beyond what it takes to clean up my forged blades. So mentally add another tick to the forging block for me.
