Knifemakers - What do you carry?

Currently I am packing a Talonite 3" fixed blade Cetan. When it is gone I will make another. I have carried mostly fixed blades over the years. I did carry a nice Ivory Barlow style knife for while, it made it 6 months or so before it was bought out of my pocket. I think makers should always carry their own work.

I always carry one of my folders, or an M16 or Magna, sometimes all three. Best way I've ever found to sell a knife. People do seem to love getting those "personal" knives.

Understand, though, that the knife a maker is carrying could be his car or house payment, or enough groceries for a week. Don't fault a maker is he doesn't carry one of his own.

I've decided to carry a different one of my folders each day of the week.

Sorry, Les, they were the ones I had ready to ship to you. Just kidding....

Great thread.

I agree with Les on this thread but it reminded me of an interview I read a while back with Bob Loveless. Bob has always thought it kind of crazy the way the prices for his knives have gone up since he swears he only makes using knives. He doesnt make wall hangers or bowies anymore for that reason. When the interviewer asked him which one of his knives he used and carried he replied" are you crazy? I cant afford a Loveless". I know he was kidding but I got a kick out of it.

for daily carry, wherever i go, i have a crkt k.i.s.s. holding my money, and a elishewitz omega 5, stryker, or s&w small army issue auto in my left pocket.(i usually carry a gun on my right). if it's a knockaround dress day, i wear my well-worn 6 or 7 year old dan valois belt knife.

on the job, i wear the others (minus the belt), plus one of my neck knives under my duty shirt, under my left arm, my g10 tactical under my right arm, and a custom handled benchmade cqc7 on my duty belt in a pouch. guys at work think i'm crazy, (maybe right!) but when someone needs something cut, they call me! i carry a 6" bladed A2 hatintec tanto in my duty bag, which has come in handy for those "forced entry's".
my rule of thumb when working: always have a knife within easy reach!

To those that talk about not being able to afford there own knives, I got to tell you about my carry knife for next year. It's not yet made, but it will be made for my personal carry and will not be sold. A "Patrolman" with Talonite Blade. I have been carrying that folder for about 2 years, but when the Talonite knife is done I will carry 2 knives. I am excited about it already.
