I heat treat "in house" but I'm not really any good yet. I use my coal forge with a pipe in the hot spot for even (ish) heating. That and a magnet.

I do!

I have a 27" programmable Even Heat. It's been a great investment!

Kiln with a Thermocouple and fast quench oil with Immersion heater and two thermometers...
Of course that means baby sitting the Kiln during HT's

Is that my watch in the video ???
I have a 24" Paragon and I am looking at a Wilson hardness tester next month.

I do. I have an EvenHeat, liquid Nitrogen and a rockwell hardness tester. Very enjoyable.

Less than a year in, about 30 knives all HTed by me. I have an Evenheat 220V with the Rampmaster control. So far very happy with my its' performance and my HT.

I do everthing from start to finnish in house! And thats the only way to go,an the only way to learn!!
I have the large 220v sugar creek knifemakers oven, aswell i spent the extra cash and upgraded it ,its pid controlled with an alarm, works like a charm:thumbup:

I have always heat treated my own "carbon" steel blades in an upright "Fogg" style blown forge with a digital read-out on the temps. I can dial that sucka within plus or minus 3 degrees.

Bought an Evenheat 18" at Blade this year in order to do my own "stainless". So far I have used it to try CPM-154. Came in at 60-61 without Cryo. My next step will be the purchase of a "Dewar" for Liquid Nitro.

Prior to the purchase, I used BOS exclusively for my "stainless". Don't know if I will ever achieve the excellence provided by both Pauls, but I'm gonna give it hell trying.

Now this is cool!

i cant even think about sending out
i had a kiln before i had a proper grinder (it was still a delta 1x42) kiln was my first buy and a LN dewer was the 2nd cause if you mess up the HT the knife is jsut a letter opener

i have an evenheat also a dewer for cryo for quench i have parks 50 a slow oil and Al quench plates in a 12 ton press

edit jsut watched the video
cut the foil pack from the fold all most to the 2x crimp and then jsut pull 80% of the time it will act il a zipper and open up the whole length of the long side (then less you fuse the foil wrap to the blade its easy to get out of the pack) at the temp you are quenching from and with the 25lb weight you will not have much problem as far as sticky blades/foil

Thanks Lil Homie...
I am keeping a close eye on you... I am impressed with some of the things I am seeing from you..
I pull them open like you described but thats not very suspensful for the video, unless you get cut..
We have heat treated over 1000 blades this year so believe me we try just about every method you can imagine.
Slightly off topic but you know Mel Pardue cut his pinky off on heat treat foil and after they sewed it back on it wouldnt bend..
I asked him about his finger because the end of it was black and it looked like it had been ground down on a power tool
He told me he doesnt have any feeling and often times actually smells his flesh burning because his pinky is jammed into a contact wheel and he cant even feel it..
We all have to be really have to be careful.
Stay Safe Lil Homie..

I do all of my own heat treating , I find it very satisfying . I find local heat treaters don't give it that extra attention I like and I can understand the production line philosophy.
