knifemaking lifestyle question

I have received no pressure at all from customers who have requested a particular knife . I have found that I put the pressure on myself . This I need to learn to control because I do enjoy making a knife with a particular request . The finished product with the customers happiness is very rewarding . So now I try and do a couple of my own while also working on the customers . It has seemed to help .

I started out making knives for myself and as gifts and loved it. I started selling a few and before I knew it I had a back order of around 15 knives, I would be out in the shop working on the knives because I had to get them done not because I wanted to do the knives. Between making other peoples designs and working on the knives when I didnt want to it felt like a second job instead of a hobby. After I finished the 15 knives I didnt make a knife for over a year. I'm back to making knives and love it, but I keep or give away all the knives I make. For me trying to make a profit from a hobby is a good way to not enjoy the hobby.
