Me: Until its done. When you think you are done, wait a minute and stop ignoring those scratches you are pretending aren't there. Then, keep going until they really are gone.
I get the whole destruction test trend we see in this industry, but when you have to invent new ways to break stuff so you can design a higher level of idiot-proof, I think you are really just creating bigger idiots.
"When will my knife be finished?" This reminds me of an old story some of you have heard before about the man who when cleaning his attic found a thirty year old claim ticket for shoe repairs that had never been redeemed. He knew that the little old man who owned the shoe repair shop was still in business so he thought it would be a great joke to take the ticket to the old man with a straight face and ask for his shoes. He went into the shop the next day and handed to ticket to the man who looked at it and never even flinched when he said "they will be ready on Tuesday".
The other day I was working on putting a gate in, the gate was just a little wobbly, I said to my son that it was "good enough".
He came back with the perfect quote "good enough never is"
That applies to knife making also. Don't settle for good enough.
