I have read Wayne Godards books,The Wonder Of Knifemaking, and $50 Knife Shop.I am looking for some more reading,i know there are lots of books on knifemaking.Waynes books are great, but what would you say would be another good book on knifemaking. Thanks Keith

If your intrested in smithing Jim Hrisoulas' book The Complete Bladesmith:Forging your way to prefection, is a good start.

I'm reading "Step-by-step knifemaking" by David Boye. Very interesting; he focuses on stock removal; a lot of tricks are explained...He talks about heat threating, sheath making, tools, etc. It is obvious he talks by experience. I learned a lot from this book, and I didn't even finish it yet! The kind of book you can read many times, and learn something new each time.

Bob Terzuola has a good book on tactical liner-lock folders. Even if you aren't interested in the tactical stuff, there are some good, practical methods to follow and the photos are better than most books I've seen. It's called "The Tactical Folding Knife: A Study of the Anatomy and Construction of the Liner-Locked Folder".

How to Make Knives by Barney and Loveless is another good book if you are just starting out. I really like Knifecraft by Sid Latham. It is out of print but it is pretty easy to find used.

The hand forged knife by Carl Schroen. All of Jim H's books. and all the ones mentioned above. You can never have too many. Also do not limit yourself to books. DVD's are available at reasonable costs, about the same as a book. The main advantage is you can see the process in motion. This is a great help to me. If you are beginning or even a but more advanced, Waynes DVD on How to Make a Cable Damascus blade is great as are all of Ed Caffrey's.

Thanks for all the help,i am just trying to get some good reading material, and i will look for a dvd or two.I will have back surgery next Tuesday, and i know i will be laid up for a while so looking for some good learning material that i can get before i get down. Thanks again and any other suggestions would be helpful.

Kevin Cashen has a gold mine of information on his site, generously set out for free. Take a look at his Articles page and his Metallurgy, techniques and other info page. You won't be disappointed.

As for books, I probably have most of them, but my favorites are the How to Make Knives by Barney and Loveless, and Tactical Folding Knifehttp://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Fold...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205300209&sr=1-1http://www.amazon.com/Tactical-Fold...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205300209&sr=1-1 by Bob Terzuola

Hope all goes well with your Back Surgery. Had mine in 1996. They have come a long way since then. The computer as you know can be your best friend also. Lots of information there. Let us know how everything turns out.
