Each time I get into the shop I leap forward in time at incredible speed.
I never finish what I had planned on doing.

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Patrice

I with ya there Pat. I am always one step behind. Like they say "time flies when you're having fun".

yes it happens with me as well but it ends up being very late by the time i leave the shop because i get sucked into projects.

I can also spend the whole day in the shop and not get half of what I wanted to do done.

Our "state of mind" can effect and change the way we perceive the passage of time...

I thought it was just my shop that was a black hole for time. I finally got a whole day in the shop yesterday, well 6 1/2 hrs., and I could have spent three or four times that long. There is just never enough time.

Tai is right. I must be in a pretty happy place when I'm out there.

But sometimes I don't feel that happy in there. You know one of those days when nothing is working. Time still flies.
Guess I am happy somewhere inside.....deep deep inside. ;)

Anyway I glad that I am not alone. :)

Also, there is a tendency for mini black holes to form and then collapse in the shop. I often set something down on the bench, and it falls into one of these black holes. Then when I look for it......its gone ! After much searching I give up and get/make another one of whatever it was I needed. After I leave the shop, the black hole collapses, and the next day I find the missing item right on the bench where I had looked a dozen times.

I find it good to plan what I'm going to do in the shop on a given day just to have some reference as to how far away from my original goal I've gotten. Like planning on finishing the scales on my friend's hunter today and ending up going through 2 grits and then spending the rest of the day doing bolsters for another entirely different knife. Then you look at your watch and you can be like, wow, I didnt do shit today. But it was fun. :)

bladsmth - Those are not mini black holes - Those are the gremlins allowed to roam free at hyperspeed while we are caught in the time warp.

I'm still trying to get my shop setup exactly how I want it. I find myself staying in the shop for 8 hours or so simply cleaning and organizing. (My shop had been neglected by the previous owner, so I've invested a lot of time and money trying to make it usable.) With the TV playing in the background, time flies by. I can work on knives all day, and I never look at the clock.

The knives I'm working on just disappears. Black holes or gremlins! Debate continues....

For me it's both :D The Gremlin takes it,falls into the black hole, never to be heard from again.....Trouble is,next day, there is 2 more too take his place.

And here all this time I thought it was those dang flying monkeys!!:D

Ive spent weeks making guards that people can make in minutes. I swear metal forms back onto where ive filed it away. I walk into the shop backwards, turn off the forge, and play music in reverse in an attempt to fool the time space continum but it never works.

I also have a knack for loosing things. I have 6 wire brushes because every time I need one they all disapeer so I end up buying one then they all return. I lost a post vice for weeks and it was exactly where id left it but im sure I checked the obvious corner!

I blame quantumness and its molecular mischief.

Wow, black holes, time warp, gremlins, quantumness, molecular thingies and who knows what else!
Man I sure hope my insurance guy doesn't find this thread or else my premium is going through the roof. ;)
