Anyone have any experience with any of the knifemaking videos that are available? I've seen several, and a number of them were profiled/reviewed in Blade Magazine recently. Bill Moran has 2 or 3, Ed Fowler has one and Bob Loveless has another. Just curious what the opinion of this group is on these apparent "jewels" to aspiring knifemakers.

I have got the ones that Jim Hrisoulas made.
I like them alot, They worth getting.

I have the Bob Loveless tape. I didn't like that one. He talks about using patterns and using mills. He says he can't think how you could do it without if stuff. Like I in one point he says how far to sink the handles for the "lovless screw" he said go by all the other one he made. He doesn't tell you how to do it.

If you got all his patterns and spec plus a good machine shop you can use if video but if you are just starting out the video is almost worthless

I have the three videos by Bill Moran I have only seen the one on damascus makings and I loved it, it was very good. He does stuff dif then other people I don't know enought about it to say he is right or the others I have seen are right The video is very good even if ALL the stuff on damascus is wrong (which I doubt)The others of Bill I haven't seen yet(I just got the videos two days ago)

That is all I have I don't have the one Ed Fowler made or the one Wayne Goddard made But I will. So if toy get them first tell me how you like thiem

I just got done watching the video "the making of a Knife" by Bill Moran

I liked it as much as the one on damascus.
Like I said he does some stuff diff then a lot of people but you will still learn a lot from the videos, even if you don't agree with everything he says or does. I very highly recommend his tapes. At least thoses two.
The one handles and sheaths is on backorderd
so it might be awhile before I get to see that one

This is sorta unrelated, but I am pretty interested in seeing some of these videos, especially the Moran one on handles and sheaths. If anyone would be willing to dub a copy for me, I would be much appreciative, and I'm sure we could work something out. Thanks!
Steve

I have fowlers, Goddard's, Morans, and Hrisoulas tapes and I find they are all very good and worth the money especially Fowlers and his specially if you are starting out. I have also found the best way to learn is the read, read, and read, and try to go to a hamer-in or join a blacksmiths organization.
